Job description

THE FIRM:
For decades, this team has won historic elections at the presidential, congressional, state, and local levels. Aided by their industry-leading approaches, this firm's clients have shattered glass ceilings, shaped national policy, and inspired new generations of leaders.
As a small, agile firm working in the unpredictable world of politics, every one of their team members has the opportunity to develop and pitch creative ideas and strategies that meet the moment - pushing limits and presenting opportunities to change the status quo.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
The firm is looking for a Creative Director who lives at the intersection of storytelling and strategy. You are ready to elevate their creative work to advance some of the most important progressive campaigns and causes across the country - at a pivotal time.
The Creative Director is at the center of their work. You will set the vision and the standards for their creative portfolio, propelling their work to the next level across all mediums, from broadcast television spots to ground-breaking digital advertising.
You will shape and tell their clients' stories - who they are, what they stand for, and why it matters.
Your vision and hands-on execution will help them not just grab the audience's attention, but persuade them, too. Originality, common sense, and proven success are critical.
An experienced and collaborative leader, you will marshal a team of producers, editors, designers, animators, mixers and composers, all of whom are focused on developing high quality creative that advances client missions and reinforces the firm's reputation as a trusted, insight-driven partner.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
• Lead creative meetings with internal staff and production houses at the start of each project; convey overall vision, creative approaches, and project budget and timeline.
• Work in conjunction with the Lead Creative Writer to develop ideas that support the messaging goals of Democratic candidates running for local, state, and Federal office.
• Develop vision for spots that begin as on-location shoots with candidates and hired talent, as well as for spots developed in-studio with stock footage and graphic animation.
• Lead communication with production houses throughout process to provide clear, time-sensitive creative guidance on edit, motion graphics, music composition, and sound design while holding editors to hard deadlines for internal and client reviews.
• Manage multiple on-going projects for broadcast and digital distribution, ensuring spots meet firm's high production standards as well as the political objectives and sensitivities of our clients.
• Manage the workflow of fast-paced design, production, editing, motion graphics, and animation projects, while employing resourceful and imaginative problem-solving approaches to keep projects on deadline.
• Translate and confirm client creative notes and vision into actionable production concepts with an understanding of timeline and execution needs.
• Approve edits, color grades, sound mixes, and final visual effects.
• Ability to direct shoots is preferred as is the ability to provide guidance to DPs and freelance directors to ensure all necessary footage is shot at the highest production quality possible.
• Other duties as assigned.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
• 8-10 years of experience in creative direction, including some experience as an editor.
• Experience directing shoots preferred, but not required.
• A tested and trusted process for high level production management.
• Deep knowledge and practical experience in all areas of video production, including: field, studio, and remote production; editorial, graphics and finishing.
• Problem solver in a video production environment.
• Experience using post production applications (Adobe Products, FrameiO, etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Superb verbal and written communication skills.
• Maintains a positive and professional attitude at all times, especially under tight and changing deadlines.
• Prior experience in political communication/advertising helpful, but not required.
• Familiarity with and strong interest in Democratic politics at local, state, and federal levels preferred, but not required.
• Professional demeanor and strong work ethic.
• Flexible schedule and willingness to work late evenings and weekends during busy periods.
• A sense of humor and a genuine love for what you do.
BENEFITS:
• Remote position, enabling you to operate from the location you choose most of the time, with some travel required.
• Less demanding slow season with a highly flexible work schedule during off-election years.
• Generous paid vacation and sick days, including an extended holiday leave schedule.
• An opportunity to impact federal and state elections, leading to progressive policies.
• Working with genuinely happy, mission-driven people.
• Fully-paid parental leave.
• Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance.
• 401k retirement savings plan with employer contribution.
SALARY:
This role has two compensation components: (1) a competitive annual base salary and (2) a significant bonus to be paid following each two-year election cycle. This format should resonate with anyone who has previously worked in a creative leadership role in the political advertising space. The hiring firm expects that qualified applicants will seek a base salary of $100K+ and aggressive bonus compensation.
