PrizePicks is looking for a Sr. Director, State Government Affairs to lead our advocacy efforts across US States with legislators and key stakeholders around issues related to daily fantasy sports, predictions markets, and sports and entertainment. This is a high-impact role for a thoughtful, driven professional with excellent political instincts and judgement who is passionate about great consumer products and public policies that support consumer choice. It reports into the SVP of Public Affairs.
What you'll do:
  • Team Leadership & Management: Oversee and mentor a team of regional Directors of State Government Affairs, ensuring collective coverage of all 50 US states. This includes managing team performance, conducting annual performance reviews, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Budgeting & Resource Allocation: Develop and manage the annual State Government Affairs budget, including overseeing external firms and lobbyists, and strategically allocating resources for maximum impact and efficiency across all jurisdictions, and overseeing political giving.
  • Political Judgement and Strategic Prioritization: Direct the legislative and regulatory strategy development for US State government affairs. Assign and adjust priority assignments for the regional Directors based on current legislative landscapes and company goals. Make calls and ensure that the executive leadership team has clear visibility into the changing political landscape.
  • Public Representative: As a senior face of PrizePicks, you'll ensure state legislators, regulators, governors, and attorneys general in all jurisdictions understand and are champions for our customers and business.
  • Coalition & Relationship Building: You will drive high-level engagement with 3rd party stakeholders, peers, and competitors (including casino operators, tribal gaming communities, and others) to convert allies into champions and build strategic relationships.
  • Internal Communication & Reporting: Draft and distribute weekly team updates on progress towards legislative and regulatory goals, providing concise and impactful summaries for internal company stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with comms, legal, product, and marketing teams to tell the PrizePicks story and support our user community.
What you have:
  • Experience & Expertise: 8+ years of experience in policy, government, and/or campaign roles with a strong grasp of politics, media and comms, the legislative process and familiarity with tech, consumer apps, and gaming issues.
  • Manager Experience: Experience leading teams and setting strategy.
  • Strong Communication: The ability to distill complex competitive and policy dynamics into short, high impact, politically attuned messaging for both internal and external audiences.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: The ability to quickly forge connections and build relationships, both internal and external.

The typical salary range for this position is $170,000 to $220,000. At PrizePicks, we consider your role, level, and where you'll be working when determining our salary ranges.
