To thrive as a Remote Court Clerk, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of legal procedures—typically supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with digital case management systems, electronic filing platforms, and virtual meeting tools like Zoom is crucial. Excellent communication, discretion, and adaptability help Remote Court Clerks effectively manage sensitive information and interact with legal professionals remotely. What is a Remote Court?

A Remote Court is a legal proceeding conducted through virtual means, such as video conferencing or telephone, rather than in a traditional courtroom setting. This approach enables judges, lawyers, defendants, and other participants to participate in hearings and trials remotely, often from their homes or offices. Remote courts have become increasingly popular for improving access to justice, reducing travel time, and maintaining court operations during emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. While the process aims to mirror in-person court proceedings, it may require specific technology and security measures to ensure fairness and confidentiality.

What are some common challenges faced when working as a remote court reporter, and how can they be managed?

Remote court reporters often encounter challenges such as maintaining a reliable internet connection, ensuring clear audio quality, and managing background distractions while transcribing legal proceedings from home. To overcome these issues, it is important to use high-quality headsets, invest in backup internet solutions, and create a dedicated, quiet workspace. Additionally, staying up-to-date with court reporting technology and maintaining strong communication with attorneys and court staff can help ensure proceedings run smoothly.

Job description

Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year

WHY THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

  • Step into a role built around the work strong writers and researchers love most: motions, briefs, MSJs, and the full range of law-and-motion practice — no filler work, no administrative overhead
  • Join a well-regarded civil litigation firm in Newport Beach with a diverse practice spanning general liability, construction defect, personal injury, business litigation, and real property matters
  • Your legal research and writing skills will be front and center — this is a firm that values the attorney who wins on paper as much as in the courtroom
  • Competitive compensation with bonus potential and strong earning trajectory
  • Hybrid and remote flexibility available — work the way that makes you most effective
  • Two openings available — a rare opportunity to join a growing team with immediate impact
  • Newport Beach base with flexibility: the quality of life and professional community of OC, without a rigid in-office requirement

Location: Newport Beach, CA — Hybrid and remote arrangements are available for the right candidate. In-office presence is preferred when practical, but we support flexible working arrangements that allow you to do your best work.

Note: Candidates must hold an active California Bar license and have a minimum of 3 years of civil litigation experience with meaningful law-and-motion practice. Strong legal research and writing skills are essential. Candidates who do not meet these requirements will not be considered.

ABOUT US

We are a civil litigation firm based in Newport Beach, CA, representing clients across a broad range of civil defense and litigation matters throughout California. Our attorneys handle sophisticated caseloads — from general liability and construction defect to business and real property disputes — and we take pride in sharp, well-crafted legal work at every stage of litigation. We are a collegial team that values strong writers, strategic thinkers, and attorneys who take ownership of their work. Confidential Employer.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Draft and oppose a full range of law-and-motion filings: demurrers, motions to strike, motions for summary judgment and summary adjudication, motions in limine, discovery motions, and other dispositive and non-dispositive motions
  • Conduct thorough legal research to support motion practice, case strategy, and client advisement
  • Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, briefs, and other litigation documents with precision and persuasive clarity
  • Analyze and respond to opposing counsel's motions and briefs, identifying weaknesses and developing effective counter-arguments
  • Collaborate with litigation attorneys across practice groups — GL, construction defect, PI, business litigation, and real property — to support active matters
  • Manage multiple simultaneous drafting assignments with strict attention to deadlines and court rules
  • Assist with case strategy and legal analysis at key inflection points in litigation
  • Communicate with supervising attorneys and clients as needed on motion status, strategy, and outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active California Bar license (required)
  • 3+ years of civil litigation experience (required)
  • Meaningful law-and-motion experience: drafting and/or opposing motions, MSJs/MSAs, discovery motions, pleadings, briefs, and legal memoranda (required)
  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills (required)
  • Experience in one or more of the following practice areas preferred: general liability, construction defect, personal injury, business litigation, real property, civil defense
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex legal issues into clear, persuasive arguments
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently with high attention to detail
  • 5+ years of experience preferred; candidates at this level will be considered for more senior positioning

WHY YOU WILL LOVE WORKING HERE

If you are the attorney who finds flow in a well-constructed brief or a tight MSJ — this role was built for you. You will work across a varied civil litigation practice, contributing to meaningful matters where your research and writing directly shape outcomes. The team is experienced and collaborative, the work is substantive, and the flexibility to work hybrid or remote means you can structure your environment for maximum focus. Two openings means the firm is investing in this function — and in the attorneys who fill it. If you are a skilled law-and-motion practitioner ready to be valued for what you actually do best, this is the opportunity.
