BAS Controls Estimator Job Description

Position Summary

The BAS Controls Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and proposals for Building Automation System (BAS) projects. This role works closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering, Project Management, and customers to develop complete solutions for new construction, retrofit, service, and energy-related projects. The estimator analyzes project requirements, develops material and labor estimates, solicits vendor pricing, and supports the sales process through proposal development and technical consultation.

Location: Tampa, FL - Hybrid/Remote/In-Office

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, sequences of operation, and customer requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for controllers, sensors, actuators, field devices, networking equipment, and associated controls materials.
  • Develop labor estimates for engineering, programming, graphics, installation, commissioning, and project management activities.
  • Generate accurate project budgets, quotations, and formal proposals.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and scope gaps.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to develop competitive BAS solutions.
  • Support value engineering efforts to improve project profitability and competitiveness.
  • Attend project walkthroughs, pre-bid meetings, and customer site visits as required.
  • Maintain estimating databases, labor units, and standard cost models.
  • Assist with project turnover meetings to ensure accurate transfer of scope to operations teams.
  • Support change order pricing and project cost analysis throughout project execution.
  • Stay current with BAS technologies, industry standards, and market pricing trends.
