Project Manager – Institutional Construction

Location: Southwestern Ontario / Remote
Project: New-Build High School
Compensation: $120,000 – $160,000 annually (based on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Position Overview

An established Ontario general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of a new-build high school project in Southwestern Ontario.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the project from preconstruction and mobilization through construction, commissioning and closeout. This individual will work closely with the site team, consultants, subcontractors, ownership representatives and internal stakeholders to ensure the project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards.

The seniority and title of the position may be adjusted based on the successful candidate's experience. The company can also provide flexibility for the Project Manager to work remotely, with attendance at the project site and meetings as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall planning and execution of the assigned construction project.
  • Establish and maintain the project schedule, budget, procurement plan and reporting procedures.
  • Coordinate closely with the Site Superintendent and project team throughout construction.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts and other project documentation.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, scope reviews, tender analysis and contract awards.
  • Oversee project costs, forecasting, change orders, progress billings and financial reporting.
  • Lead project meetings with owners, consultants, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential scheduling, design or construction risks.
  • Coordinate RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, site instructions and change documentation.
  • Ensure contractual requirements and project deliverables are properly administered.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the client, consultants, authorities and trade partners.
  • Support the resolution of design, coordination and constructability issues.
  • Ensure the project complies with applicable building codes, safety requirements and quality standards.
  • Manage commissioning, deficiencies, occupancy requirements and project closeout.
  • Provide leadership and support to Project Coordinators and other members of the project team.

Qualifications

  • Several years of project management experience with an established general contractor.
  • Previous experience delivering ground-up institutional or commercial construction projects.
  • Experience with educational, municipal or other public-sector projects would be considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage construction budgets, schedules, contracts and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications and contractual documentation.
  • Experience working with consultants, owners and public-sector stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead project teams and maintain accountability across multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with standard construction management, scheduling and reporting software.
  • Construction-related diploma or degree is preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded construction professional with strong general contracting experience and a successful record of delivering complex new-build projects. They will be comfortable managing both the commercial and operational aspects of a project while maintaining strong relationships with the client, consultants and site team.

Candidates currently located in Southwestern Ontario are preferred; however, qualified candidates from other Ontario markets may also be considered due to the remote-work flexibility associated with the position.

What the Company Offers

  • Opportunity to lead a significant new institutional construction project.
  • Flexible remote-working arrangement.
  • Established and reputable Ontario general contractor.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Collaborative working environment with direct access to senior leadership.
  • Long-term career growth and future project opportunities.
