Job description

About Casa
We believe owning a home should feel as special as the moments that take place within them. If our mission inspires you, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
We're hiring a Remote Estimator to define and scope handyman jobs before they reach the field. This is a high-judgment, critical role where you own the front-end definition of work by reviewing requests (photos/descriptions) and translating them into clear, actionable scopes. The accuracy of your decisions directly impacts job success, cost, and homeowner trust. You will also interact with homeowners to clarify details and ensure the job is properly prepared. You must work closely with operations and field teams, and speed, accuracy, and strong judgment are essential. If scoping is done well, the downstream process works; if not, everything breaks. This is an hourly position requiring approximately 40 hours per week across a consistent 5-day schedule that includes one weekend day.
What You'll Be Responsible For
  • Review incoming job requests including photos, videos, and descriptions and define clear, complete scopes of work
  • Determine required tasks, materials, tools, and estimated time needed for each job
  • Ensure scopes are specific enough to be executed without additional clarification
  • Identify missing or unclear information and proactively follow up with homeowners to fill gaps
  • Communicate with homeowners to clarify requests, set expectations, and prepare them for upcoming visits
  • Provide clear, professional, and timely communication to homeowners throughout the pre-visit process
  • Flag jobs that are out of scope, unsafe, or require licensed specialists
  • Maintain consistency in scoping standards across all job types
  • Balance speed and accuracy and scope jobs quickly without sacrificing quality
  • Incorporate field feedback to continuously improve scoping accuracy
  • Reduce job failure, rework, and scope creep through better upfront definition
  • Maintain clean documentation of scopes, notes, and assumptions
  • Support operations with queue management and prioritization of incoming requests
  • Identify patterns in mis-scoped jobs and improve guidelines to prevent repeat issues

About You
You are a practitioner first. You have done the work yourself in handyman services, construction, maintenance, or a related trade and understand what it actually takes to complete a job. You can look at a few photos and quickly understand what is really going on. You communicate clearly and confidently with homeowners. You know how to ask the right questions, guide conversations, and set expectations in a way that builds trust.
You make practical decisions, not theoretical ones. You move fast but do not cut corners. You understand that missing a small detail upfront can create major problems later. You take ownership of getting the scope right the first time. You are comfortable working independently, making judgment calls, and being accountable for outcomes.
You do not need corporate experience. You need:
  • Strong trade intuition
  • Attention to detail
  • Bias toward action
  • Clear and structured thinking
  • Strong customer communication skills

Must Haves
  • 2 or more years of hands-on experience in handyman work, construction, maintenance, or a related trade
  • Strong ability to assess jobs remotely using photos, videos, and written descriptions
  • Experience communicating directly with customers or homeowners
  • Working knowledge of common home repair tasks, materials, tools, and time requirements
  • Ability to break down work into clear, actionable scopes
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously without losing quality
  • Reliable and responsive and does not let work sit or fall through the cracks
  • Ability to work Pacific business hours

Nice to Haves
  • Experience estimating or scoping jobs professionally
  • Experience working with home services platforms or marketplaces
  • Experience documenting processes or improving workflows
