What is a remote college student tech?

Remote College Student Tech jobs are positions that allow college students to work in technology-related roles from a remote location, such as their home or dorm room. These jobs can include internships, help desk support, web development, software testing, and IT assistance, among others. They are designed to offer students valuable work experience in the tech field while accommodating their class schedules and allowing flexibility. Remote tech roles can help students build their resumes, learn practical skills, and network within the tech industry before graduating.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote college student tech?

To thrive as a Remote College Student Tech, you need strong troubleshooting abilities, basic IT knowledge, and often some experience with help desk or technical support tasks, typically backed by enrollment in a relevant college program. Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop software, and common operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) is usually required. Excellent communication, patience, and time-management skills help you support users effectively and balance work with academic responsibilities. These skills ensure efficient technical assistance, customer satisfaction, and the ability to meet both job and educational commitments in a remote environment.

Job description

Empower students. Guide families. Make an impact that lasts.

About Novella Prep
As a College Advisor, you will work independently with individual students to guide them through every stage of the college application process — from building their college list to submitting final applications. Direct experience working with students on the Common Application is required. You must be able to operate with minimal supervision and bring sufficient knowledge of the admissions landscape to advise students confidently and independently.

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned College Advisor to guide high school and college students through every stage of the admissions process. This is a part-time, contract role ideal for an experienced educator or admissions professional who values flexibility, autonomy, and meaningful one-on-one work with motivated students and families.

Candidates must have direct, hands-on experience supporting students through a full Common Application cycle – from building the college list to submitting final applications and reviewing results. This requirement is essential and non-negotiable.

What You’ll Do
  • Work one-on-one with students to build personalised college target lists tailored to their goals, strengths, and academic profile.
  •  Guide students through essay development, providing substantive coaching and feedback at every draft stage.
  •  Support students in completing and submitting applications via the Common Application. Maintain clear communication, meet deadlines reliably, and manage student timelines with a high degree of organisation.
Who You Are
  • You’ve successfully guided many students through full application cycles and know what it takes to stand out in today’s admissions landscape.
  • You bring 10+ years of experience in college advising, admissions, or related educational roles.
  • You’re a clear communicator who builds trust with both students and parents.
  • You’re detail-oriented, organized, and thrive in a virtual, professional environment.
  • You love helping students gain not just admission – but clarity, confidence, and direction.
Requirements
  • Direct, hands-on experience working with students on the Common Application — completing and submitting applications.
  •  Demonstrated ability to work one-on-one with students (not solely in group or classroom settings).
  • Experience supporting students in creating college lists and developing application essays. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Admissions office experience is a plus, but not required — what matters most is practical, independent experience supporting students through the full application cycle.
  • Ability to work independently without significant onboarding or ongoing training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in academic coaching, executive function support, or personalised student planning.
  • Comfort working in a remote or hybrid environment with distributed teams. Familiarity with data-driven approaches to student progress tracking.
  •  Admissions office background (valued but not a substitute for hands-on student-facing work).
Why Join Novella Prep?
  • Flexible, fully remote work that fits your schedule.
  • A collaborative team of experienced educators and advisors.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and leadership within a respected, expanding organization.
  • The chance to make a tangible impact on students’ lives while maintaining balance and independence.
