Whatyoulldo

We are looking to add a Mental Health Engagement Associateto our team. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Network Communications & Marketing, youwill assist with strategic engagement, partnership development, and community relations efforts to support the mental health and wellness of current LAFD uniformed personnel including firefighters, EMTs and medics, as well as their spouses/partners and children living in their household for the Gary Sinise Foundation-Cohen Veterans Network Mental Health Support Program. Specifically, you will:

Strategic Outreach & Engagement

  • Develop and implement a strategy to connect LAFD personnel and families with the Cohen Clinic and the clinic staff.
  • Increase awareness and build trust and visibility of the Gary Sinise Foundation-Cohen Veterans Network Mental Health Support Program.
  • Develop targeted outreach approaches for each population, including but not limited to firefighters, paramedics, dispatch personnel, spouses/partners and children.

Relationship & Partnership Development

  • Establish collaborative relationships with groups/organizations including, but not limited to:
    • LAFD leadership
    • Union leadership
    • Peer support teams
    • Chaplain programs
    • Wellness coordinators
  • Attend Cohen Clinic and Fire Department functions, trainings and community events that enhance awareness of the Mental Health Support Program.


Communications & Public Awareness

  • Provide input to Cohen Veterans Network for:
    • Messaging
    • Newsletters
    • Social media content
    • Website content
    • Awareness campaigns
    • Educational materials

Data & Reporting

  • Track outreach activities and engagement metrics and program participation.
  • Maintain records of partnerships, presentations, and events.
  • Prepare reports summarizing outreach impact and recommendations.
  • Utilize feedback to improve engagement strategies and program effectiveness.

Whatsrequired

  • Established relationships within the LAFD community and experience working with firefighters.
  • Experience in outreach, community engagement, behavioral health, public safety, or nonprofit leadership.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
  • Deep understanding of behavioral health challenges affecting first responders and their families.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
  • Valid California drivers license and ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles area.

  • Hybrid office and community-based work environment.
  • Regular attendance at fire stations, community events, training sessions, and department functions.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required.
  • Exposure to discussions involving trauma, crisis, grief, and critical incidents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with Los Angeles Fire Department.
  • Familiarity with unionized environments and public safety culture.
  • Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

The hourly rate for this role will be $44.00 - $54.00 per hour at approximately 10-20 hours per week.
