Position Overview
The Surgery Coder supports the Onshore department in various functions, including performing accurate professional fee coding, resolving edits and rejections, and ensuring pro-fee coding compliance. This role is critical in enabling onshore revenue cycle operations to optimize pro-fee billing and revenue capture. This role involves coding, auditing, providing expertise, and identifying process improvements.Â
Role Responsibilities
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the Surgery Coder may be required to perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support efficient business operations.
The essential functions of this role are listed below:
·      Code professional fees for surgical services accurately
·      Review denials and rejections related to surgery coding
·      Query providers on documentation for surgery coding
·      Conduct audits on surgery coding accuracy
·      Provide surgery coding education and training
·      Perform other duties as assigned or requiredÂ
Work Experience Â
·      2+ years of experience in professional surgery coding and auditing
·      In-depth knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and reimbursement methodologies
·      Proficiency with electronic health record systems
·      Advanced understanding of surgery coding practices
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based, with rare but occasional, requirements for meetings or interactions outside of regular office hours. Work may involve prolonged periods of sitting, extensive computer use, and occasional stress associated with meeting deadlines and managing high volumes requests.
Additional Qualifications
Education:
o  Required: High School Diploma or GED
o  Preferred: Vocational school in healthcare field or Associate’s degree in Healthcare, Business, or related field
Certificates or Licenses:
o  Required: AHIMA or AAPC certification
o  Preferred: CPC, CCS-P, CIRCC or other surgery-specific coding certification
RECRUITING NOTES
Estimated daily and weekly coding volumes-Â 410 claims/day (680 charges average)
• Turnaround time expectations- 48 hours from date of receipt
• Productivity assumptions used for offshore staffing calculations-E&M-80 charts/day, Surgery-50 charts/ day
• Required systems, encoder, and EHR experience:  PM System/EMR - EPICÂ
