CNC Operator Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a precise and reliable CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC machinery to safely and efficiently produce high-quality parts.

The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, can accurately read technical blueprints, and is comfortable using precision measuring instruments to ensure all finished products meet our strict quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Operation: Load raw materials into CNC machines and execute pre-programmed sequences to fabricate metal, plastic, or composite parts.
  • Setup & Adjustments: Install, align, and secure tools, attachments, and fixtures. Adjust machine settings (such as speed, feed rates, and coolant flow) to optimize production.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, and job specifications to understand required dimensions and tolerances.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools—including calipers, micrometers, and go/no-go gauges—to ensure compliance with specifications (often maintaining tolerances within 0.001 inches).
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine machine maintenance (replacing dull inserts, sharpening cutters, duburring parts, and clearing chips). Monitor machine behavior to detect and troubleshoot defects or malfunctions.
  • Safety & Cleanliness: Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean, organized workstation.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining centers.
  • Technical Aptitude: Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Measurement Precision: High proficiency with standard shop inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges).
  • Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with CNC control interfaces (e.g., Haas, Fanuc, Mazak).
  • Math Skills: Competency in basic shop math, fractions, and decimals.

Preferred:

  • Basic understanding of G-code and M-code to identify programming errors.
  • Formal certification or vocational training in CNC Machining or Manufacturing Technology.
  • Experience working in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Perform job duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in a loud manufacturing plant environment around heavy machinery, lubricants, and metal debris.
