Nature & Scope:
Positional Overview
We are seeking an experienced Workers Compensation Claims Examiner to manage complex California workers’ compensation claims, including indemnity and litigated cases. This role is responsible for investigating claims, determining benefits, managing litigation, negotiating settlements, and ensuring timely adjudication in accordance with client requirements, industry regulations, and best practices. MUST HAVE SIP cert.
Role & Responsibility:
Tasks That Will Lead to Your Success
  • Analyze and process complex workers’ compensation claims by investigating facts, gathering documentation, and evaluating claim exposure.
  • Develop and manage strategic action plans to bring claims to timely and appropriate resolution.
  • Negotiate settlements within established authority limits.
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust claim reserves throughout the life of the claim.
  • Determine benefits due and authorize claim payments and adjustments.
  • Prepare and submit required state filings within statutory deadlines.
  • Manage litigated claims and coordinate with defense counsel, medical providers, investigators, and other vendors.
  • Utilize cost-containment strategies and vendor partnerships to achieve efficient claim outcomes.
  • Identify and pursue subrogation opportunities, Second Injury Fund recoveries, and Social Security/Medicare offsets.
  • Report claims to excess carriers and respond to requests for information promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain clear communication with claimants, clients, attorneys, and internal stakeholders regarding claim status and activity.
  • Ensure claim files are thoroughly documented and accurately coded in the claims management system.
  • Refer complex issues and claims to management as appropriate.
  • Support quality initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications That Will Help You Thrive
  • Current or recent California workers’ compensation indemnity claims handling experience.
  • Experience managing litigated workers’ compensation claims.
  • Self-Insured Plans (SIP) certification required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of claims management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of California workers’ compensation laws, regulations, and claims handling practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional certification related to workers’ compensation claims handling.
  • Ability to attend occasional onsite meetings in Long Beach or Roseville, California.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong negotiation and settlement management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and claims management systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
