What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Christian Counselor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Christian Counselor, you need a background in counseling or psychology, relevant licensure (such as LPC, LCSW, or LMFT), and a strong understanding of Christian faith principles. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, secure video conferencing tools, and electronic record-keeping systems is typically required. Compassion, active listening, and the ability to integrate faith-based perspectives with therapeutic techniques are crucial soft skills. These skills ensure effective, ethical, and empathetic support for clients seeking guidance within a Christian framework, even in a virtual setting.

What are Remote Christian Counselors?

Remote Christian Counselors are mental health professionals who provide counseling services through online platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or messaging. They integrate Christian faith and biblical principles into their counseling approach, helping clients address personal, emotional, or spiritual challenges from a faith-based perspective. Remote Christian Counselors work with individuals, couples, or families, and their services can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. This allows for flexibility and privacy, making counseling more accessible for people who prefer a Christian perspective and may not have local resources.

What are the four types of Christian counseling?

The four main types of Christian counseling are biblical counseling, pastoral counseling, integrative counseling, and specialized counseling such as marriage or addiction counseling. As a remote Christian counselor, understanding these approaches helps tailor support to clients' spiritual and emotional needs, often integrating scripture and faith-based principles into therapy sessions.

Can you make money as a Christian counselor?

A remote Christian counselor can earn income through client sessions, which may be billed hourly or per session. Earnings vary based on experience, credentials, client base, and whether they work independently or for an organization, with many counselors earning a competitive income in the mental health field. Certification and licensing can also influence earning potential.

How do remote Christian counselors maintain client confidentiality and rapport in a virtual setting?

Remote Christian counselors use secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms to ensure client confidentiality and privacy. Building rapport virtually can be challenging, but counselors often employ intentional listening and clear communication to foster trust and connection. They may also set clear guidelines for session privacy and encourage clients to find a quiet, private space for sessions. Regular check-ins and flexible scheduling help strengthen the therapeutic relationship despite the physical distance.

What field of counseling makes the most money?

In counseling, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists tend to earn the highest salaries due to advanced degrees and licensure requirements. While Christian counselors typically earn less, those with specialized training, certifications, and private practices can increase their earning potential. Overall, mental health fields involving diagnosis and medication management generally have higher income levels.

Are Christian counselors in demand?

Christian counselors are in steady demand as mental health awareness grows and more individuals seek faith-based support. They often work in private practices, churches, or mental health clinics, and having relevant certifications can enhance job prospects.

Job description

Transform Youth Mental Health with Daybreak Health

Overview

Join our mission to make quality mental healthcare accessible to every student who needs it. At Daybreak Health, you'll be part of a movement dedicated to removing barriers to care and empowering young people to thrive emotionally and mentally.

We partner with over 60 school districts—including Kaiser Permanente—reaching more than one million students nationwide. Our clinicians enjoy the stability of consistent referrals and a meaningful caseload, allowing you to focus on what matters most: making a real difference in students' lives.

We're seeking compassionate, licensed mental health clinicians to provide teletherapy to students ages 11-24 throughout California. In this role, you'll deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while working alongside schools, families, and community partners to help students thrive. Every session you lead has the power to change a young person's trajectory—and that's just the beginning of the impact you'll make.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $75–$90 per session, plus guaranteed pay for no-shows and late cancellations.
  • Flexible & Manageable Caseload: Start with a minimum of just 5 sessions per week — perfect for work-life balance. Most of our clinicians choose to provide 10 sessions per week, but you can see as many clients as you'd like.
Your Path to W-2 Employment & Full Benefits

At Daybreak, we invest in clinicians who are ready to grow with us. Once you consistently reach 17 completed sessions per week, you'll have the opportunity to transition into our W-2 role, a part-time commitment that comes with the stability and benefits.

As a W-2 employee, you'll receive:

  • 💰 Base salary of $55,000/year with the opportunity to earn over $115,000 annually through monthly session bonuses ($70 per session beyond 17/week)
  • 🏥 Comprehensive health coverage — Daybreak covers up to 90% of your medical premium (dental and vision fully covered); 65% coverage for eligible dependents
  • 🗓️ Work-life balance — 11 paid holidays, 4 mental health days, and 60 hours of PTO per year
  • 📈 401(k) plan
  • 🧠 Professional support — Clinical guidance from experienced team leads and a clinical director to help you meet and exceed your goals

Prefer to stay independent? Clinicians who wish to remain as 1099 Independent Contractors are welcome to do so — we support whatever arrangement works best for your lifestyle and career goals. At Daybreak, flexibility isn't just a perk, it's part of how we work.

Flexibility & Clinical Support
  • Fully Remote: Work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Flexible Schedule: Set your hours Monday–Friday, 3–8 PM PST, with optional weekend availability from 9 AM–5 PM PST.
  • Administrative Support: We handle billing, credentialing, and scheduling—so you can focus on care
  • Supportive Clinical Community: Peer consultation, collaborative networks, and team discussions
  • Professional Development: Continuing education credits and ongoing training
Role & Responsibilities
  • Foster strong, supportive relationships with students to create a safe therapeutic environment
  • Provide evidence-based individual teletherapy to students ages 11–24 experiencing mild-to-moderate mental health conditions
  • Provide psychoeducation to parents/caregivers
Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional with LCSW, LPCC, LMFT, or LP credentials in the State of California
  • Passion for youth mental health: Demonstrated commitment to providing culturally responsive, equitable care that honors diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Experience working with teens and youth ages 11-24 in clinical or school settings
  • Comfortable with telehealth: Experience providing telehealth services

Please note: This role is open to fully licensed clinicians only; associate and provisionally licensed clinicians are not eligible.

Our Commitment to Diversity

Daybreak Health is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We believe that diverse perspectives strengthen our mission to serve students from all backgrounds. We actively encourage applications from people of all races, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, abilities, and veteran status.
