What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Chemistry position, and why are they important?

To excel in a Remote Chemistry position, you generally need a degree in chemistry or a related field, strong analytical skills, and experience with laboratory practices. Familiarity with digital lab management systems, data analysis software, and sometimes remote sensing equipment or chromatography tools is typically required. Excellent written communication, self-motivation, and time management are standout soft skills for remote collaboration and reporting. These skills ensure accuracy, productivity, and effective teamwork while managing experiments and data from a distance.

What is a Remote Chemistry job?

A Remote Chemistry job involves conducting chemistry-related work from a location outside of a traditional laboratory or office, often from home. These jobs can include roles in research, formulation, regulatory affairs, quality control, education, or technical writing. Remote chemists use digital tools, virtual labs, and collaboration platforms to analyze data, write reports, and communicate findings. Some positions may require occasional lab visits, but many can be done entirely online.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Chemistry Expert based in Netherlands.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Chemistry professional to contribute to the development of next-generation artificial intelligence systems through the creation of advanced STEM training data. In this role, you will design sophisticated chemistry challenges that require deep scientific reasoning, quantitative analysis, and computational expertise. Working in a fully remote and flexible environment, you will help shape the evaluation and training processes of cutting-edge AI models by developing rigorous, reproducible, and scientifically accurate content. The position offers the chance to apply research-level chemistry knowledge to innovative projects while collaborating with a network of experts focused on pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities. This contract role combines scientific problem-solving, technical writing, and computational methodologies in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating setting.

Accountabilities
  • Design advanced chemistry problems that reflect real-world scientific and industrial workflows across various chemistry disciplines.
  • Develop deterministic tasks with a single verifiable correct answer, accompanied by complete and validated solutions.
  • Create reasoning-intensive challenges that test complex chemical concepts, quantitative analysis, and computational approaches.
  • Apply Python programming and, when relevant, specialized chemistry software, modeling tools, or simulation packages to support task development.
  • Ensure all content is technically accurate, reproducible, thoroughly documented, and aligned with high scientific standards.
  • Produce clear, concise, and rigorous technical explanations in English to support solution validation and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field.
  • Professional, academic, or research experience involving computational, quantitative, analytical, or modeling-focused chemistry workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with scientific computing libraries and data analysis tools.
  • Deep understanding of chemical reasoning, numerical methods, modeling techniques, and complex problem-solving approaches.
  • Ability to create original and challenging content that goes beyond standard textbook exercises.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with computational chemistry, cheminformatics, spectroscopy, molecular modeling, simulation platforms, or specialized chemistry software is highly valued.
  • Previous experience developing technical assessments, evaluation materials, or scientific training content is considered an advantage.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Flexible part-time commitment of approximately 10-20 hours per week.
  • Contract-based engagement with an initial project duration of 2 months and potential extension opportunities.
  • Competitive compensation of up to $40 USD per hour.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the advancement of frontier AI technologies.
  • Exposure to innovative projects at the intersection of chemistry, computation, and artificial intelligence.
  • Flexible working schedule that supports autonomy and work-life balance.
