The dynamic nature of startups means the role can be broad, often requiring adaptability and a willingness to take on varied tasks.

How does a remote business development professional at a startup typically collaborate with other teams?

Regular virtual meetings, shared project management tools, and open communication channels are essential to align strategies, share market feedback, and refine outreach efforts. Building strong relationships and staying proactive in communication are key, as remote setups require extra effort to ensure everyone is on the same page and goals are met efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote business development professional in a startup?

Job description

JOB DETAILS
The Vice President, Business Development is a strategic, hands-on sales leader responsible for driving growth through consultative partnerships with organizations seeking to transform their hospitality and dining operations-without outsourcing. This is a highly execution-focused, individual contributor role with no direct reports. The Vice President is expected to personally lead all aspects of business development, including prospecting, outreach, executive discovery, solution design, proposal creation, pricing strategy, and deal closure.
Focused on the senior living sector, this role manages the entire sales lifecycle from top-of-funnel outreach through successful contract execution. With a deep understanding of self-operated food service models and the operational and cultural challenges facing providers, the Vice President serves as a trusted advisor to executive teams - positioning our advisory, and culinary transformation support (QCS) as high-impact solutions that elevate resident satisfaction, workforce engagement, operational performance, and financial outcomes.
The ideal candidate blends executive presence with a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset, thrives in environments where personal ownership drives success, and is highly skilled at navigating long sales cycles, building relationships across complex decision-making structures, and translating nuanced operational needs into tailored, high-value solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Sales Strategy & Execution Develop and execute a go-to-market plan to grow market share in the senior living, healthcare, and corporate hospitality sectors through consultative, non-outsourced partnerships.
  • Pipeline Development & Outreach Identify and engage prospective clients through targeted outreach, networking, referrals, and national/regional conferences. Use data-informed prospecting strategies to expand the top of funnel.
  • Executive Engagement Lead high-level discovery conversations with CEOs, CFOs, and executive directors to uncover operational, culinary, and cultural challenges that align with our service offerings.
  • Solution Development & Proposals Collaborate with operations, culinary, and quality teams to create tailored solution frameworks, pricing strategies, and compelling proposals that reflect each client's goals.
  • Contract Negotiation & Close Own the end-to-end sales process through to contract execution-ensuring value alignment, clear scope, and successful handoff to implementation teams.
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence Stay abreast of trends in hospitality, regulatory shifts, staffing, resident expectations, and competitor activity. Share insights to inform marketing strategy and service innovation.
  • Cross-Brand Collaboration Partner with the IHS, CrossCheck, and QCS leadership teams to align messaging and support integrated sales opportunities across the Phoenix3 Collective ecosystem.
  • CRM & Reporting Maintain accurate records of all sales activity, forecasts, contacts, and deal progression in HubSpot or relevant CRM platforms.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications
  • 7+ years of hands-on B2B sales or advisory experience in hospitality, contract dining, healthcare, or senior living, with direct ownership of prospecting, outreach, discovery, proposal development, and closing.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or certifications in healthcare, hospitality, or business preferred.
  • Demonstrated success operating as an individual contributor, personally managing the full sales lifecycle without reliance on a sales support team.
  • Proven track record of consultative selling and closing complex engagements ranging from $50K to $500K+.
  • Deep understanding of self-operated dining models, contract transitions, and hospitality-forward service design.
  • Experience engaging executive stakeholders (CEOs, CFOs, Executive Directors) and navigating multi-tiered decision-making environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complexity into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms (HubSpot preferred) and disciplined sales performance tracking.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% to client sites and industry events nationwide.
