Remote Bug Bounty Program information

What are Remote Bug Bounty Programs?

Remote Bug Bounty Programs are initiatives run by organizations that invite independent security researchers, or 'bug hunters,' to find and report vulnerabilities in their software or systems. These programs are conducted entirely online, allowing participants from around the world to contribute remotely. Companies offer monetary rewards or other incentives for valid and impactful security findings. This approach helps organizations strengthen their security by leveraging a global pool of ethical hackers, while participants gain recognition and compensation for their expertise.

What are the biggest challenges faced by participants in a remote bug bounty program, and how can they be addressed?

One of the main challenges in remote bug bounty programs is staying motivated and disciplined without direct oversight, as participants often work independently. Additionally, understanding the specific security requirements and scope of each program can be complex, especially when dealing with varied platforms and reporting standards. To overcome these challenges, it's important to set personal goals, join online communities for peer support, and thoroughly review each program's documentation before starting. Effective communication with program coordinators can also help clarify expectations and facilitate successful submissions.

Position Overview
RIVA Solutions is seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Tester to support testing and quality assurance activities for Federal client digital products and web modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will develop test strategies and test cases, coordinate test execution, manage defects, support user acceptance testing (UAT), perform regression testing, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve quality processes and release readiness.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, acceptance criteria, regression suites, release checklists, and test execution schedules for web enhancements, Drupal migrations, content updates, search features, data visualizations, and microsites.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, browser, mobile, usability, content, and UAT support testing across Federal client web properties and environments.
  • Validate requirements, user stories, designs, and acceptance criteria against implemented functionality and documented business needs.
  • Log, prioritize, track, and retest defects in Jira; support bug triage meetings and coordinate issue resolution with developers, content staff, and accessibility specialists.
  • Support testing for Drupal/WCMS migrations, including content parity, redirects, metadata, taxonomy, page templates, search behavior, and domain consolidation activities.
  • Perform basic accessibility checks and coordinate with the Senior Trusted Tester for detailed Section 508 testing and remediation validation.
  • Use automated testing tools such as Selenium or comparable platforms to improve regression coverage and reduce manual testing efforts.
  • Track and report testing progress, quality trends, open defects, release readiness, risks, and stakeholder concerns.
  • Contribute to QA process improvements, SOPs, templates, naming conventions, defect workflows, and quality metrics.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience developing test plans, test cases, test scripts, regression suites, and release readiness criteria for web applications or CMS-based websites.
  • Experience conducting functional, regression, cross-browser, mobile, content, usability, and UAT testing.
  • Experience managing defects and test execution using Jira, HP ALM, Quality Center, or comparable tools.
  • Working knowledge of Drupal or similar CMS workflows, HTML/CSS basics, browser developer tools, and web standards.
  • Familiarity with Section 508/WCAG concepts, W3C/HTML5 standards, and accessible digital product testing.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, coordination, and issue-triage skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Selenium or other automated testing tools, BrowserStack, PowerMapper, Lighthouse, Axe, WAVE, or comparable QA tools.
  • Experience leading testing for Drupal 7/8/9/10 migrations, public-facing Federal websites, or Federal client digital services.
  • Experience with CMMI, ISO 9001, Agile/Scrum methodologies, Jira administration, or QA process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting security accreditation, ATO documentation, POA&Ms, or risk and quality management processes.
