Job Description
The Lead Human Factors Engineer (HFE) ensures that the OCI's digital solutions are designed for the "human in the loop." This role focuses on reducing clinician burnout and preventing medical errors caused by poor system usability or fragmented workflows.
Detailed Scope of Work & PWS Alignment:
  • Usability Metrics & Performance Assessment: Conduct performance assessments using simulation. Establish usability metrics and recommend design enhancements for clinical tools.
  • Latent Issue Identification: Analyze policy and aggregate process performance to identify latent issues likely to evade standard unit testing of workflows or tools.
  • Human-Centered Design (HCD) Promotion: Promote HCD methods and practices across the VA. Ensure that design changes are visualized and tested for their impact on all user personas.
  • Agile Collaboration: Participate in live demo calls and react to participant feedback during user sessions to identify and resolve human factor issues in real-time.

Qualifications
Advanced Technical Proficiencies:
  • Methods: Mastery of HFE methods, usability studies, and statistical analysis.
  • Standards: Thorough understanding of NIST and ISO standards for healthcare usability.
  • Psychology: Expertise in organizational psychology and cognitive load theory.

Education: Master's Degree in HFE or related field.
Experience: 10 years in HFE research and application.
