What is a remote book doctor?

A remote book doctor is a professional editor or consultant who helps authors improve their manuscripts by providing feedback on structure, style, pacing, characterization, and overall narrative. Unlike traditional editors, remote book doctors work virtually, offering their services online without needing to meet clients in person. They guide writers through revisions, help identify weaknesses, and suggest actionable changes to enhance the book’s quality and marketability. This role is especially helpful for authors seeking objective, expert advice before submitting to agents or self-publishing.

What are some common challenges faced by remote book doctors when collaborating with authors and publishers?

Remote book doctors often face challenges such as aligning editorial vision with authors and publishers due to limited face-to-face interaction. Effective communication becomes crucial, as feedback and revisions must be conveyed clearly through digital channels. Additionally, managing time zones and project deadlines can require strong organizational skills. Building trust and rapport with clients remotely is essential for successful long-term collaborations in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote book doctor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Book Doctor, you need expertise in writing, editing, story structure, and a strong command of language, often backed by a degree in English, literature, or a related field. Familiarity with editing tools like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style is essential. Exceptional communication, empathy, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help build strong client relationships and encourage writers. These skills ensure that manuscripts are polished, coherent, and market-ready while maintaining positive, productive collaborations with authors.

Job description

Why Join Our Team

WW offers a true employment experience that includes career growth opportunities, plus the stability, support, and benefits of a global, established brand. As the #1 doctor-recommended weight-loss program, WW provides a trusted, science-backed foundation for care. As a Registered Dietitian with WW, you'll be part of a collaborative care model that values evidence-based practice and professional growth, and be part of a mission-driven, fun, and collaborative team culture, where your continuous learning and professional development are actively supported.

  • No need to source your own clients-members book directly with RDs through the app based on availability, ensuring a consistent and streamlined flow of appointments
  • Specialized experience: Extensive work with GLP-1 medications and perimenopause - two of today's most sought-after specialty areas.
  • Professional development: Ongoing investment in your professional growth, with dedicated manager support and a collaborative team environment, and employer-sponsored CEUs tailored to your role, helping strengthen clinical expertise, counseling skills, and evidence-based practice. Recent trainings have included goal-setting strategies, effective nutrition follow-up visits, and other topics directly relevant to member care.
  • Clinical excellence: Standardized, responsible counseling practices supported by a multidisciplinary team and backed by science.
  • Integrated care: Access to a comprehensive suite of digital and clinical tools to support member success.
  • Join a mission-driven organization redefining modern weight management and nutrition care.

About The Role

We are looking for experienced, independent registered dietitians to provide compassionate, member-centered Medical Nutrition Therapy via telehealth. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Practice evidence-based, member-centered care free of bias.
  • Review intake information and medical history during video visits, guiding members with personalized, evidence-based recommendations
  • Build ongoing relationships through regular MNT follow-ups, using counseling techniques to support progress, explore barriers, and adapt care plans over time
  • Utilize a counseling-focused, motivational interviewing approach to support members in exploring their goals, building sustainable habits, and navigating the program, while applying Weight Watchers nutrition guidance, protocols, and evidence-based practices
  • Communicate effectively and engage with the team in Slack daily.
  • Weight Watchers Registered Dietitians are expected to complete all member visits, submit accurate billing and charting notes, and attend monthly meetings

The Ideal Candidate

  • Friendly, personable, and engaging-able to build rapport and make members feel comfortable and supported
  • Skilled in counseling, with a strong foundation in motivational interviewing
  • Tech-savvy and adaptable, with the ability to navigate digital tools and embrace evolving workflows and processes
  • Contributes to a collaborative team environment and stays actively connected in a virtual, part-time role
  • Committed to continuous learning, growth, and professional development
  • Demonstrates familiarity with Weight Watchers, including its program and offerings, and aligns with our philosophy- recognizing members as the experts in their own experiences, practicing food neutrality (no foods are labeled as "good" or "bad"), and defining success based on each member's individual goals and values.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Active state license in dietetics/nutrition in at least one state, with a preference for multiple states.
  • Availability of at least 10 hours per week
  • An operating system that includes:
    • Memory of at least 16GB
    • OS = Mac and Windows (No Chrome OS)
    • Mac OS 26.0 or higher
    • Windows 11
  • Please note that current WW field members are not eligible to hold both positions*

Benefits

  • We offer a competitive starting salary of up to $45/hr. Based on performance, your rate can increase to $50/hr in just 6 months.
  • Flexible scheduling; choose your own hours.
  • Malpractice insurance provided.
  • We pay for no-shows and late cancellations because your time is valuable. You will be paid for this time at half of your hourly rate.
  • We offer PTO and paid sick time.
  • Paid time for training and onboarding.
  • Monthly employer-sponsored CEUs tailored to your role
