Remote Book Doctor information

What are some common challenges faced by remote book doctors when collaborating with authors and publishers?

Remote book doctors often face challenges such as aligning editorial vision with authors and publishers due to limited face-to-face interaction. Effective communication becomes crucial, as feedback and revisions must be conveyed clearly through digital channels. Additionally, managing time zones and project deadlines can require strong organizational skills. Building trust and rapport with clients remotely is essential for successful long-term collaborations in this role.

What is a remote book doctor?

A remote book doctor is a professional editor or consultant who helps authors improve their manuscripts by providing feedback on structure, style, pacing, characterization, and overall narrative. Unlike traditional editors, remote book doctors work virtually, offering their services online without needing to meet clients in person. They guide writers through revisions, help identify weaknesses, and suggest actionable changes to enhance the book’s quality and marketability. This role is especially helpful for authors seeking objective, expert advice before submitting to agents or self-publishing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote book doctor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Book Doctor, you need expertise in writing, editing, story structure, and a strong command of language, often backed by a degree in English, literature, or a related field. Familiarity with editing tools like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style is essential. Exceptional communication, empathy, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help build strong client relationships and encourage writers. These skills ensure that manuscripts are polished, coherent, and market-ready while maintaining positive, productive collaborations with authors.

Job description

ABOUT AMERIVET

At AmeriVet, we're dedicated to supporting veterinary practices through operational excellence,

data-driven innovation, and enhanced access to care. We are growing our Support Center

team and looking for an Operations Enablement Specialist to help hospitals improve

productivity through effective scheduling.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position keeps doctor schedules in AmeriVet's practice scheduling system (ezyVet) clean,

complete, and built far enough ahead that clients can book. This is a hands-on, high-volume

influential role: assess the schedules, find what is blocking access to care, partner with

practices to get it fixed, and coach the practice to future success.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Productivity and Operations, this person works remotely

across all reporting practices in partnership with Practice Managers and Operations Directors.

The measure of success is simple: more bookable, patient-facing doctor time - and therefore

improved access to care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Review doctor schedules in EzyVet on a set weekly cadence, practice by practice,

against the scheduling standards.

Find and resolve unnecessary schedule blocks - recurring holds, stale administrative

blocks, oversized non-clinical blocks, and other opportunities that limit access to care.

Confirm doctor schedules are built out the required number of weeks in advance and

chase down the gaps where they are not.

Check that appointment types, durations, and slot templates match the approved

standards, and flag where a practice's set-up unintendedly caps its own capacity.

Make corrections directly in ezyVet once the Practice Manager has signed off; escalate

anything the Practice Manager will not or cannot approve to the Operations Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years in veterinary practice operations, medical/dental scheduling, or another multi-

site appointment-based service business.

Hands-on experience working inside a practice information management system,

scheduling system, or electronic medical record.

Strong attention to detail with the discipline to work through a high volume of practices

on a repeating schedule without losing accuracy.

Comfortable coaching and influencing people who do not report to them - able to get a

Practice Manager to say yes.

Clear, friendly written and verbal communication; able to explain a standard without

making someone feel audited.

Working proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Teams/Outlook; able to keep an organized

tracker without being handed one.

Self-directed and reliable in a fully remote role.

Prior experience as a Practice Manager, lead CSR, or scheduling coordinator in a

veterinary hospital preferred.

This role is fully Remote
