Full Time Litigation Funding information

What is full time litigation funding?

Full time litigation funding refers to the financial support provided by a third-party funder to cover the legal costs of a lawsuit, allowing individuals or companies to pursue or defend litigation without bearing the immediate expense. Funders typically assess the merits of the case and agree to pay legal fees, court costs, and sometimes other related expenses in exchange for a portion of the proceeds if the case is successful. This arrangement helps claimants who might not otherwise have the resources to pursue their legal rights, while also transferring some of the financial risks associated with litigation to the funder.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in full-time litigation funding roles?

Professionals in full-time litigation funding often encounter challenges such as evaluating the merits and risks of complex legal cases, managing a high volume of case assessments with tight deadlines, and navigating evolving legal and regulatory environments. Collaboration with legal teams, claimants, and internal investment committees is essential to ensure sound investment decisions. Additionally, balancing the interests of funders and claimants while upholding ethical and legal standards is a key aspect of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in full-time litigation funding, and why are they important?

To thrive in full-time litigation funding, you need a strong background in law, finance, and risk assessment, typically supported by a law degree or extensive legal experience. Familiarity with legal case management software, financial modeling tools, and due diligence systems is essential. Exceptional negotiation, analytical thinking, and interpersonal communication skills help professionals build relationships and make sound investment decisions. These skills ensure effective evaluation of cases, risk mitigation, and successful collaboration with law firms and clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of litigation, arbitration, and pre-suit disputes, including directing outside counsel on strategy, budget, and resolution.

  • Oversee the insurance program, including coverage analysis, renewals, and broker and carrier relationships.

  • Investigate, evaluate, reserve, and negotiate settlement of claims within delegated authority.

Job description

Every matter you touch here traces back to a family trying to grow. Inception Fertility is the parent of The Prelude Network® — the largest network of fertility centers in North America — and we are hiring a dedicated litigation and risk attorney.

You will own the litigation portfolio, the insurance program, and enterprise risk across the network. Half the job is winning the disputes in front of you. The other half is building the risk program that keeps the next one from happening.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

  • Litigation. All phases of litigation, arbitration, and pre-suit disputes -  medical and professional liability, employment, and commercial — directing outside counsel on strategy, budget, and resolution.
  • Insurance. The full program: professional liability, general liability, D&O, EPL, cyber, and property, renewals, coverage analysis, limits, and broker and carrier relationships.
  • Claims. Investigation, evaluation, reserving, and settlement negotiation within your delegated authority.
  • Enterprise risk. Loss-prevention initiatives, policies, and training built with clinical quality, patient safety, and compliance — plus adverse-event review and root-cause analysis.
  • Counsel to leadership. Litigation holds and discovery, risk-allocation terms in contracts, regulatory and licensing-board responses, and reporting

What is required from you:

  •  J.D. from an accredited law school and an active U.S. state bar license in good standing.
  • 4–7 years of civil litigation experience, preferably at a firm.
  • Hands-on experience managing outside counsel, claims, and insurance coverage matters.
  • Working knowledge of coverage lines and the claims-handling process.
  • The judgment to carry a full portfolio independently and the communication skills to advise senior leaders.

Preferred: healthcare, medical malpractice, or professional liability experience, and a track record in risk management in a regulated industry.

WHY THIS ONE

  • A build, not a maintenance job, you shape the litigation, insurance, and risk functions rather than inherit them.
  • Direct line to the Chief Legal Officer and real visibility with senior leadership.
  • A growing national network, so the legal questions keep changing.
  • Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and travel to clinics across North America.
