Summary of Position: The Instructional Designer for AI-Enhanced Course Improvement works within the Future Learning Lab to strengthen existing courses serving thousands of IWU students. This is a part-time, remote, non-teaching contract role. The central responsibility is discernment: evaluating Future Learning Lab course analysis and recommendations against the course, the discipline, and the students it serves, then accepting, adapting, or rejecting each recommendation and implementing the resulting design.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reviews Future Learning Lab course analysis and exercises professional judgment on which recommendations to accept, adapt, or reject Leads the redesign of assignments and assessments vulnerable to AI substitution
  • Builds AI literacy scaffolding into course activities and instructions
  • Updates course content for currency and strengthens the overall learning experience
  • Reviews and redesigns faith integration as a structural element of course design
  • Attends course kickoff meetings when scheduled, or routes revised activities to faculty and the academic lead for asynchronous review Builds and revises approved course content in the IWU learning management system and supporting tools
  • Applies adult learning theory, Quality Matters (QM) standards, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements throughout the design process - (Essential)

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
  • Education/Professional Credentials/License:
    Bachelor's degree and Certificate in Instructional Design and/or work required; Masters in instructional design, education, or a related field preferred

Experience
  • Work Experience:
    Experience in instructional design or course development, preferably in higher education with an emphasis on responsible AI usage
  • Skills:
    Working knowledge of adult learning theory, Quality Matters (QM) standards, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements; familiarity with AI tools and their appropriate use in course development; strong writing, judgment, and collaboration skills; proficiency with LMS platforms and instructional design tools

Required Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online educational delivery tools.
  • Demonstrated teaching abilities.
  • Demonstrated higher education experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft products.
