What is a Remote B2B Customer Service representative?

A Remote B2B Customer Service representative is a professional who provides support and assistance to business clients from a remote location, often working from home. Their main responsibilities include addressing client inquiries, resolving issues, processing orders, and ensuring customer satisfaction for business-to-business (B2B) transactions. These representatives use digital communication tools like email, chat, and phone calls to interact with clients, manage accounts, and maintain strong business relationships. They are essential in helping companies retain clients and streamline operations without being physically present in an office.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote B2B Customer Service Representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote B2B Customer Service Representative, you need strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience in business-to-business client relations, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CRM platforms (like Salesforce or Zendesk), ticketing systems, and remote communication tools is typically required. Exceptional organizational skills, patience, and a proactive approach help build trust and maintain professional relationships with business clients. These skills ensure efficient issue resolution, client satisfaction, and long-term business partnerships in a remote, fast-paced environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote B2B Customer Service representatives, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote B2B Customer Service representatives often encounter challenges such as managing complex client inquiries across different time zones, maintaining clear communication without face-to-face interaction, and handling multiple accounts or platforms simultaneously. Effective time management, strong organizational skills, and proactive communication are key to overcoming these obstacles. Leveraging collaboration tools, participating in regular team check-ins, and seeking ongoing training can help representatives stay aligned with team goals and deliver high-quality service to business clients.

Our culture is grounded in five core values: Win Together, Innovate Boldly, Drive Results, Customer Centric, and Guide with Care. These are not just principles; they shape how we make decisions, partner with customers, and show up for each other.

At Odyssey, you are not just part of a company; you are part of building what comes next.

The Role:

Work Model: Hybrid (onsite Monday–Thursday, remote on Fridays)

Travel Requirements: Yes

Compensation: Competitive pay with a lucrative incentive program

Reports to: Sr. Manager, Client Success

Summary / Primary Role:

The Business Development Representative (BDR) is a front-line sales role within the Odyssey Brokerage division, responsible for generating new business opportunities and building relationships with prospective shippers. Acting as the first point of contact, the BDR identifies customer needs, qualifies opportunities, and positions Odyssey’s 3PL solutions to drive revenue growth. This role requires resilience, strong communication, and a passion for connecting with potential customers to create long-term partnerships.

What You’ll Do:

 Prospecting & Lead Generation

• Execute high-volume outbound prospecting (calls, emails, LinkedIn, digital tools) to engage target accounts.

• Identify and pursue mid-market shippers with meaningful freight spend and sophisticated supply chain needs.

• Research industries, supply chain profiles, and decision-maker networks to design effective outreach campaigns.

• Create and maintain a qualified pipeline of opportunities, including RFPs, seasonal demand, and project-based freight.

Sales Development & Consultative Engagement

• Lead discovery conversations to uncover customer challenges and align Odyssey’s brokerage solutions.

• Develop and deliver proposals, service presentations, and pricing strategies tailored to each prospect.

• Collaborate with operations and account management teams to ensure seamless onboarding and long-term service success.

• Track competitive insights and market trends to anticipate customer needs and support retention efforts.

Portfolio Management & Customer Execution

• Act as the primary relationship manager for newly secured accounts until fully transitioned to Account Management.

• Partner with operations teams to ensure loads are executed in alignment with customer expectations.

• Monitor early shipment activity to validate pricing, service levels, and carrier compliance.

• Proactively communicate with customers during the onboarding phase to build confidence and address execution concerns.

• Provide feedback to internal teams on recurring issues, process gaps, or opportunities for improvement.

CRM & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of contacts, notes, opportunities, and pipeline stages in CRM.

• Report on prospecting activity, conversion metrics, and sales pipeline health to leadership.

• Partner with internal teams to align pipeline growth with overall brokerage revenue goals.

What You Bring:

• 2-4 years of experience in freight brokerage or 3PL sales (preferred)

• Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.

• Demonstrated success in B2B sales with moderately complex cycles.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence decision-makers.

• Familiarity with truckload, LTL, expedited, or intermodal freight solutions.

• Proficiency in CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).

Benefits:

We offer a comprehensive and competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

• A choice of medical plans with FSA and HSA options
• Dental Insurance
• Vision Insurance
• Company-paid Life and Disability Insurance
• 401(k) Plan with Company Match
• Paid Time Off (PTO) and Company Holidays
• Employee Assistance Program
• Company Health & Wellness Program
• Discounts with Preferred Vendors

No relocation allowance will be considered unless specifically addressed. All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

At Odyssey, we believe the best ideas come from people with different skills, experiences, and perspectives. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and evaluate every candidate based on the qualifications needed for the role, while also valuing the unique strengths, curiosity, and fresh thinking each person brings.
