Mission Summary:

The Remote Vehicle Assistance Agent monitors live data and provides remote assistance to Motional vehicles in autonomous mode when they encounter unknown situations. Reporting to the Remote Vehicle Assistance Supervisor, the RVA Agent will use proprietary software tools to interact with the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) to provide context and assistance to allow the vehicle to continue its mission. Emphasizing research and development, commercialization, revenue generation, and product enhancement, the RVA Agent will drive efficiency by introducing new tools and technologies, while aligning cost-efficiency initiatives with Motional's values and commitment to a driverless future.ย 

What you'll be doing:

  • Monitor Motional autonomous vehicles (AV) operating on closed courses and public roads
  • Assist in the AV decision-making with real-world events to ensure safe and efficient paths of travel
  • Monitor AV camera feed to ensure the cameras and AV are functioning properly
  • Monitor AV systems to ensure AV and systems are functioning properly
  • Provide support to AV in real time to assist with direction or safety of travel
  • Work closely with various engineering teams for system testing and testing of new scenarios
  • Work closely with design teams to support the development of functions and performance of AV
  • Interact with AV to resolve tickets and issues through various software and hardware
  • Reporting of system functionality issues to management in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in autonomous vehicle technology, with a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and mobility outcomes.
  • Prior experience in autonomous vehicle operations, automotive, robotics, fleet operations, technical training, or adult learning environments.
  • Experience delivering instructor-led training, facilitating technical workshops, or conducting structured onboarding programs.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues across automotive systems, robotic platforms, computer hardware, software applications, and network infrastructure.
  • Working proficiency with Linux-based systems and familiarity with scripting languages used for diagnostics, automation, or analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools, including PowerPoint/Slides, Excel/Sheets, and Word/Docs.
  • Successful completion of required role-based eLearning and certification content related to supported vehicle platforms and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply logical, unbiased analysis to problem-solving, including isolating issues, documenting findings, and tracking resolution through established processes.
  • Proven ability to follow detailed procedures, execute tasks accurately, and quickly learn new tools or workflows, with a strong attention to detail and safety-first mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex technical concepts and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive operational environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and apply flexible, creative thinking within established operational and safety guidelines.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, or holidays, to support operational needs.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education, Training & Development, Computer Science, Physics, Automotive Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing technical training programs, certification processes, or operational readiness initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of the Atlassian toolchain, including JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Jenkins, for issue tracking, documentation, and workflow coordination.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, C++, or similar languages used in embedded or systems-level development.
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostic and analysis tools such as Docker, Python, and network analysis utilities (for example, Wireshark).
  • Knowledge of modern automotive diagnostic procedures, vehicle networks, and service workflows.
  • Experience with system-level architectures and sensors commonly used in autonomous vehicles, including LiDAR, radar, cameras, CAN bus, and associated data networks.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Linux-based environments for operational, diagnostic, or analytical purposes.
  • Experience performing data analysis to support issue investigation, trend identification, operational decision-making, and continuous improvement initiatives.ย 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Requires near/far/depth and color vision to safely assist Autonomous Vehicles and computer screens
  • Able to stay awake and alert on shift at all times
  • Able to sit/stand for up to 10 hours at a desk

Working Environment:

This role requires the ability to work in an office environment and use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
