Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Family Law Associate Attorney to manage a caseload involving divorce, child custody, visitation, child and spousal support, equitable distribution, enforcement actions, and post-decree modifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Virginia family law, courtroom experience, and a commitment to resolving matters through negotiation and settlement whenever possible.

This position offers the opportunity to independently manage cases from intake through resolution while working in a collaborative and supportive remote environment.


Responsibilities

  • Represent clients throughout all stages of family law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, support, equitable distribution, enforcement, and modification proceedings.
  • Develop and execute effective case strategies focused on achieving favorable client outcomes.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, agreements, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and parties to resolve disputes efficiently.
  • Appear in Virginia courts for hearings, motions, conferences, and trials when necessary.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding case status, legal options, and strategic recommendations.
  • Manage case files, deadlines, and documentation in compliance with firm and court requirements.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient case management.
  • Meet annual billable hour requirements of approximately 1,440 hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Virginia State Bar membership in good standing (Required).
  • Minimum of 3 years of Virginia Family Law experience.
  • Experience independently handling family law cases from inception through resolution.
  • Knowledge of Virginia family law procedures and courtroom practices.
  • Experience with divorce, custody, visitation, support, equitable distribution, enforcement actions, and post-judgment modifications.
  • Strong negotiation, litigation, legal research, and drafting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while effectively managing deadlines and caseload responsibilities.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of family law experience.
  • Mediation training or Collaborative Law certification.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating settlements and resolving disputes outside of court.
  • Experience handling complex financial and custody matters.
