Technical Writer SharePoint Skills and some Development skills

Vienna, VA OR Winchester, VA OR Pensacola, FL Hybrid - 3 days onsite, 2 days remote

Rate is Negotiable

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer with 5+ years of experience who brings a strong blend of technical documentation expertise, SharePoint administration, and development capability.

This role is responsible for creating, managing, and enhancing technical documentation while designing and maintaining SharePoint-based knowledge management solutions.

The contractor will partner with technical and business teams to deliver clear, user-friendly, and scalable documentation that supports enterprise systems and initiatives.

Responsibilities

· Develop, write, and maintain technical documentation including user guides, admin guides, and SOPs

· Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content

· Design and maintain SharePoint sites, libraries, navigation, and metadata structures

· Build and enhance SharePoint solutions using lists, libraries, web parts, and workflows

· Manage document lifecycle processes including version control, governance, and archival

· Develop and enforce documentation standards, templates, and style guidelines

· Collaborate with business and technical SMEs to gather requirements and validate content

· Participate in Agile/SDLC processes to ensure documentation aligns with project delivery

· Create diagrams, workflows, and visuals to enhance content usability

· Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes and leverage Microsoft 365 tools including Copilot

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Information Systems, or related field

· 5+ years of experience in technical writing or documentation development

· Experience supporting enterprise systems, applications, or technical teams

· Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

· Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable documentation

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

Desired Skills

· Strong expertise in SharePoint administration (site design, libraries, governance)

· Experience with SharePoint development (pages, lists, workflows, integrations)

· Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
