What is a Remote Airline Software specialist?

A Remote Airline Software specialist is a professional who manages, maintains, or develops software solutions for airlines, working from a remote location rather than at the airline's physical offices. These specialists may handle tasks such as booking system maintenance, ticketing software development, or ensuring the integration of various airline technologies. Working remotely allows them to collaborate with global teams, resolve technical issues, and improve software performance without being onsite. This role requires strong technical skills, knowledge of airline industry standards, and effective communication abilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Airline Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Airline Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills, experience in software development lifecycles, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with airline-specific systems such as reservation platforms, GDS (Global Distribution Systems), and proficiency in tools like Jira, Git, and cloud services is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and clear communication are vital soft skills for remote collaboration. These competencies ensure the delivery of reliable, secure, and efficient software solutions crucial to airline operations.

What are some common challenges faced when working in a remote airline software role, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in remote airline software roles often face challenges such as coordinating across time zones, ensuring effective communication with global teams, and maintaining data security standards. To manage these, many teams utilize collaboration tools, set clear expectations for response times, and implement robust security protocols for remote access. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation also help ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals and updates, enabling smooth workflow and high-quality software delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and own the Fleet Operations product strategy and roadmap.

  • Gather and synthesize feedback from airline and airport customers and internal operators to inform product priorities.

  • Partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to decompose product needs into system requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria.

Job description

Who We Are
AeroVect is transforming ground handling with autonomy, redefining how airlines and ground service providers around the globe run day-to-day operations. We are a Series A company backed by top-tier venture capital investors in aviation and autonomous driving. Our customers include some of the world's largest airlines and ground handling providers. For more information, visit www.aerovect.com.
The Sr. PMT for Fleet Operations is responsible for defining the strategy, roadmap, and development of products that enable AeroVect's Autonomous Ground Support Equipment (AGSE) vehicles to operate safely and reliably at scale. This role will define and build the remote assistance infrastructure, dispatch systems, and fleet monitoring tooling that the AeroVect AGSE Service depends on to scale reliably.
This role requires a unique blend of user-centric product thinking, technical fluency, and strong communication skills to drive the creation of reliable and scalable fleet operations products. The PMT will translate the real-world needs of airline/airport customers and internal operators into a clear, prioritized product roadmap. The PMT is expected to decompose user needs into high-level system design and clear requirements that engineering teams can execute against. Delivery against the roadmap will require strong cross-functional collaboration with UX, infrastructure, autonomy, and operations teams to ensure that products are intuitive and reliable.
You Will
  • Define and own the Fleet Operations product strategy and roadmap
    • Manage a multi-surface product roadmap spanning remote assistance, dispatch, and fleet management
    • Serve as the voice of the customer by continuously gathering and synthesizing feedback from airline/airport customers and internal operators to inform priorities
    • Scope phased product milestones that unlock value and provide instrumentation to enable data-driven iterative development over time
  • Drive technical execution across real-time and infrastructure-heavy systems
    • Partner with Systems Engineering to decompose product needs into system requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria
    • Participate in system design discussions with Infrastructure teams - ensure technical architectures are aligned with product needs and operational realities
    • Work with Program Management to ensure roadmap commitments are tracked, blockers are surfaced early, and dependencies are known
    • Prioritize the product backlog, balancing new features, technical debt, and bug fixes to ensure efficient development
  • Provide cross-functional leadership
    • Serve as the primary Point of Contact and Subject Matter Expert for Fleet Operations products
    • Communicate product vision and status to stakeholders, including senior leadership, engineering, operations, and external customers
    • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for non-technical audiences
You Have
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of product management experience owning technically complex products end-to-end
  • Experience building operator-facing or operational tooling in environments where reliability and real-time performance are non-negotiable
  • Proven ability to ship 0 โ†’ 1 products in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority
We Prefer
  • Experience building teleoperations, remote assistance, or fleet management products
  • Strong understanding of software development, system architecture, and cloud infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with infrastructure teams - you can read system design documents, reason about real-time system constraints, and push back on technical decisions that don't serve product goals
  • Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or safety-critical systems
  • Understanding of dispatch, routing, and resource allocation systems
  • Familiarity with airport/airline operations or large-scale fleet operations
