Job description

#jobalert | DIRECT HIRE | PAYROLL ADMINISTRATOR | MANUFACTURING | Kansas City |

A growing multi-site industrial manufacturer headquartered in the Greater Kansas City metro is hiring a Payroll Administrator to own full-cycle payroll across multiple locations and states. The company is in active growth mode, and adding locations โ€” which means this role will grow in complexity and scope as the business does. This is not a 'run the system' role. The person who thrives here brings an accounting foundation to payroll: they reconcile to the general ledger, audit benefits billing, and catch problems before anyone else has to find them.ย ย If you have strong GL reconciliation skills, experience in multi-state payroll environments, and the ability to operate independently in a company that's building its infrastructure in real time, this is worth a conversation.

  • Anticipated $70Kโ€“$80K, based on experience, could go higher for the right candidate
  • Full suite of benefits: Health/Dental/Vision, 401K, PTO/Vacation
  • Onsite role, M-F (potential for hybrid/remote over time)

Overview

  • Process full-cycle payroll for a multi-location, multi-state hourly and salaried workforce on a bi-weekly cycle.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger; prepare and post payroll journal entries each period.
  • Review and audit insurance carrier billing statements; verify amounts against enrollment data and payroll deductions; flag and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage PTO accruals and ensure accurate tracking across all employee groups and pay structures.
  • Identify and correct payroll discrepancies proactively โ€” before employees notice.
  • Handle benefits enrollment administration and serve as the point of contact between employees and carriers during open enrollment and qualifying events.
  • Manage international wire transfers for a small number of contractors paid through a third-party employer of record.
  • Support the evaluation and eventual migration to a new payroll/HRIS platform โ€” contributing your experience to a cleaner, more scalable system.
  • Help design and implement a centralized digital timekeeping solution to replace current manual and ERP-based processes.
  • Absorb and centralize payroll functions currently handled across multiple sites; build documented processes so the model is repeatable as new entities are added.
  • Partner with Finance leadership on payroll reporting, multi-state tax compliance, and audit preparation.

Preferred Skills / Experiences

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years of full-cycle payroll processing experience in a multi-site or multi-state environment.
  • Demonstrated general ledger reconciliation and journal entry experience โ€” this is required, not preferred.
  • Proficiency with ADP (any platform: Workforce Now, Run, etc.) strongly preferred; isolved, UKG, or similar HRIS/payroll platform experience also valued.
  • Working knowledge of benefits billing reconciliation, PTO accrual structures, and payroll deduction auditing.
  • Experience supporting or leading a payroll system migration or implementation a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with multi-state payroll tax compliance: state registrations, quarterly filings, nexus considerations.
  • Comfortable working digitally and helping teams move away from paper-based processes.
  • High attention to detail; comfortable operating independently with minimal supervision.
