As an Actuarial Analyst within Optum Health, you will support actuarial efforts in data analysis, Excel modeling, and other actuarial analytics for monthly reserving and medical expense forecasting. You will have the opportunity to assist special projects in coordination with other functional teams across the broader organization.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support lead actuary on monthly reserving and quarterly medical expense forecast for Optum's Home & Community population
  • Understand and interpret the key drivers of health care trends and reserving results; projecting expected medical expenses
  • Assist in development reserving and forecasting methodologies and assumptions
  • Conduct and evaluate studies on utilization and health care costs
  • Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to provide management with statistical findings and conclusions
  • Perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data
  • Analyze forecasts and trends to help leaders make decisions

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related field
  • Successful completion of 1 or more actuarial exams
  • Data analysis experience
  • Expertise working with large tables of data, formulas, and calculations in MS Excel
  • Basic proficiency in SAS, SQL, R, or similar programming languages
  • Proficiency with MS Office products

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of actuarial or related internship
  • Successful completion of 2 or more actuarial exams
  • Based in Eden Prairie, MN

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
