Job description

The Opportunity:

The Captive Reinsurance Accountant role provides crucial support in the evaluation and management of reinsurance contracts, claims, and relationships with reinsurers. The role is key to ensuring compliance with company policies, efficient claim settlement, and effective communication and collaboration with reinsurers. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to the generation of insightful reinsurance reports and analysis to support informed decision-making within the organization.

In This Role You Will Execute On:

  • Prepare technical, financial accounting of premium, claim and reserves based on statement of accounts or on bordereaux.
  • Review and analyze reinsurance contracts to ensure adherence to company policies and guidelines.
  • Manage the processing and settlement of reinsurance claims, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Generate reinsurance reports and conduct analysis to support decision-making.
  • Consult internal stakeholders on Statutory and Reinsurance Accounting expertise and guidance.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with reinsurers.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and standardization; actively identify areas for process improvement and inefficiencies.
  • Join relevant training sessions to maintain current relevant knowledge and of the system, processes, and changes.
  • Keep SOP/training guides up to date for role and processes in collaboration with Captive Account Executives.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested.

In This Role You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in reinsurance accounting, insurance or similar financial area.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, primarily Excel, Outlook, Teams.
  • Skilled at building and maintaining internal and external (carrier) relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on metrics.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel by car or airplane for meetings, conferences, or other business-related functions.
