Common Search IntentCompare simulation software rolesCompare simulation software roles

Remote Abaqus and Remote ANSYS are both specialized engineering simulation roles that often require similar credentials and work environments. While Abaqus focuses on structural and materials analysis, ANSYS covers a broader range including thermal and fluid dynamics. Both roles are commonly found in engineering firms and R&D departments, with similar remote work opportunities. The main difference lies in the specific simulation software expertise required, making them distinct but related career paths in engineering simulation.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Abaqus engineers, and how can they overcome them?

Remote Abaqus engineers often encounter challenges related to communication and collaboration, especially when working on complex simulation projects that require frequent input from team members or clients. To overcome these hurdles, it's important to establish clear communication channels, utilize collaborative platforms for sharing models and results, and schedule regular virtual meetings to align project goals. Additionally, remote engineers should ensure they have a reliable internet connection and access to necessary software licenses, as well as proactively seek feedback to stay aligned with project expectations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Abaqus Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Abaqus Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering, finite element analysis (FEA), and proficiency with the Abaqus simulation software, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in structural or mechanical analysis. Familiarity with technical tools like CAE software (especially Abaqus), scripting languages (such as Python), and sometimes certifications in FEA or simulation are important. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in this position. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering accurate simulation results, collaborating with distributed teams, and meeting project goals efficiently.

What is a Remote Abaqus job?

A Remote Abaqus job refers to a position where professionals use Abaqus, a powerful engineering simulation software, to perform finite element analysis (FEA) tasks from a remote location. These roles typically involve modeling, analyzing, and interpreting engineering problems using Abaqus, often in fields such as mechanical, civil, or aerospace engineering. Remote Abaqus jobs allow specialists to collaborate with teams and clients online, providing flexibility while supporting product design, stress analysis, and research projects. Proficiency in Abaqus and a strong background in engineering principles are essential for these positions.

Job description

Full Time | Eligible for Hybrid, Remote

Solutions Engineers are the technical backbone of every Luminary AI opportunity. You\'ll partner with Account Executives to lead pre-sales engagements from first discovery call through pilot. We\'re hiring SEs grounded in a specific physics discipline โ€” structural mechanics and FEA, in this role โ€” who bring that depth to Physics AI use cases across our customer base. The role is technically heavy: most of your week will be in demos, validation studies, and surrogate model evaluation, with the rest spent on the commercial motion โ€” qualification, scoping, proposals, and executive storytelling.

What you\'ll do in this Role:

  • Run discovery and qualification on new opportunities, translating customer pain into scoped Physics AI use cases
  • Build demos, benchmarks, and validation studies using Luminary generated data or customer data
  • Contribute to applied R&D in AI/ML for structural mechanics โ€” evaluating new architectures, prototyping surrogate workflows, and stress-testing model performance on real customer geometries and load cases
  • Own the technical narrative in customer meetings โ€” from engineer-level deep dives to VP/CTO storytelling
  • Collaborate with internal product and engineering teams to translate customer needs into Luminary platform enhancements
  • Present at customer sites and industry conferences to demonstrate Physics AI capabilities

What we\'re looking for:

A self-starter engineer with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder technical evaluations. Primarily:

  • PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering, or related, 2-5 years of post-PhD experience in structural simulation, technical sales, or applied research
  • Hands-on FEA expertise โ€” stress analysis, fatigue, vibration/NVH, composites, or nonlinear statics โ€” with fluency in commercial solvers (Abaqus, ANSYS Mechanical, Nastran, or similar)
  • Experience with explicit dynamics for crash, impact, or drop-test simulation
  • Working knowledge of Physics AI and ML surrogates (neural operators, GNNs, transformers for PDEs)
  • Python proficiency for scripting, automation, and API/SDK workflows
  • Strong commercial instincts โ€” you can read a room, qualify fast, and tell a clean technical story to a non-technical buyer
  • Willingness to travel (~25%) to customer sites across North America

Ways to Stand Out:

  • Background working with aerospace, automotive, defense, or industrial manufacturing customers
  • Experience with open-source FEA (CalculiX) or topology optimization workflows
  • Experience with PyTorch and frameworks like PhysicsNeMo, Modulus, or equivalent
  • Experience with HPC environments and cloud computing platforms

Eligibility: This role is limited to U.S. Persons. Candidates must be based in the United States and satisfy all listed requirements. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
