Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, brings expanded services to a new building located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno. The facility offers acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health services.

Our acute rehabilitation services include occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or another disabling conditions. We offer advanced treatment for a wide range of conditions including stroke, brain injury, amputation, neurological disorders, major multiple traumas and spinal cord and back injuries. All patients will experience private rooms, have access to a newly renovated therapy gym, and personalized care from our qualified staff.

**RELOCATION OFFERED**

This Occupational Therapist opportunity is full time @ 40 hours per week, offers full benefits, and a convenient day shift schedule. This position is for our NEW 22 bed Acute Rehab Hospital in Northwest Reno. We are searching for a dynamic Occupational Therapist. You will be responsible for evaluation, planning, directing and administering physical/occupational therapy modalities of treatment for patients during their acute rehab stay.  Therapists administer treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability from diagnoses such as stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury.  Assist patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.  The staff therapist coordinates, delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff.  The staff therapist participates in operational aspects of the department such as interdisciplinary team meetings, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.  Ensures that documentation meets requirements, and treatment uses an evidence based approach.  Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.  Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational safety programs.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for direction of the therapy department certified staff, including therapy assistants and aides.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, recommends change to physician as needed.
  • Ability to perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy.  This includes geriatric patients and the general adult patient population.
  • Critical thinking, complex problem solving, decisive judgement and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge and application of professional practice and regulatory requirements.

  • Must be able to work in a demanding work environment, organize multiple priorities completing work duties within expected timeliness and requirements.  
  • Computer and required technology proficiency/competencies
  • Demonstrates effective and efficient professional communication (verbal & written) skills as well as interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, teamwork/collaboration, costumer service and community relations abilities.
  • Able to retain and apply new knowledge and skills
  • Keeps abreast of professional practice development and advancement.

Occupational Therapist requirements:

Current state licensure for Occupational Therapy.

Three (3) or more years of previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy preferred.
Current BCLS certification.
