What does a relocation project manager do?

A Relocation Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of moving a company, department, or individuals from one location to another. Their duties include planning the move, managing budgets and timelines, coordinating with vendors and moving companies, and ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. They also handle communication with stakeholders, address logistical challenges, and ensure that the relocation is completed efficiently and safely.

What are some common challenges faced by relocation project managers during large-scale office moves, and how can they be addressed?

Relocation Project Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating between multiple departments, adhering to tight timelines, and managing vendor relationships during large-scale office moves. Effective communication and detailed planning are essential to minimize disruptions and ensure all stakeholders are informed throughout the process. Additionally, anticipating potential issues—like IT infrastructure set-up or regulatory compliance—can help the project manager proactively resolve problems. Building strong relationships with both internal teams and external vendors is key to a smooth relocation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a relocation project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Relocation Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, organizational abilities, and experience in logistics or facilities management, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications like PMP. Familiarity with project management software, move management systems, and budgeting tools is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills help manage stakeholders, minimize disruption, and ensure smooth transitions. These capabilities are crucial for coordinating complex relocations efficiently, staying on schedule, and meeting client or organizational expectations.

Project Manager — Deliver Reno's Landmark Arena

Reno, NV | Full-Time | $120,000 – $160,000 DOE | Relocation assistance available

The Opportunity

Some PMs spend a career waiting for a project people will actually talk about. This is that project. Our client — a nationally recognized heavy commercial GC with a portfolio spanning hospitality, gaming, entertainment, healthcare, aviation, and public works across the Western U.S. — is hiring a Project Manager for a landmark arena in Reno. You'll manage from preconstruction through final turnover on a venue that will host sports, concerts, and conventions for generations. They're moving qualified candidates through interviews fast.

Why This One Stands Out

  • Signature project: A destination venue that will shape the region's future
  • Respected builder: One of the West's most trusted heavy commercial contractors, with a deep backlog
  • Relocation + benefits: Assistance available for qualified candidates, comprehensive package
  • Advancement: Collaborative leadership and real growth opportunities

What You'll Do

  • Manage all project phases from preconstruction through turnover
  • Lead planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and execution
  • Develop and maintain budgets and cost forecasts; manage contracts, subcontracts, POs, and change orders
  • Monitor financial performance; prepare monthly reports and executive updates
  • Lead subcontractor and owner meetings; manage RFIs, submittals, and documentation
  • Partner with Project Executives, Superintendents, owners, architects, and consultants
  • Monitor critical path activities and implement recovery plans when needed
  • Coordinate long-lead procurement and material deliveries
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for owners, consultants, and trade partners

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related preferred
  • 5+ years of commercial construction project management with a GC
  • Large-scale project experience — $50M+ preferred
  • Arena, stadium, hospitality, casino, convention center, airport, or healthcare experience strongly preferred
  • Command of contracts, budgets, scheduling, and project controls
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or P6
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and organizational skills

Build more than a project — build a legacy. Apply now.
