Police Officer
8400 Police Department
Schedule: 40 hours weekly. 8:00am - 8:00pm
About the Position
The use of discretion in enforcing Indiana State Statutes involving matters of criminal activity on Reid Health property. Responsible for enforcing all Reid Hospital Police Department policies designed to prevent theft and unauthorized access. Also aids in any type of emergencies inside the hospital, on hospital grounds, and on or in all Reid Health satellite offices. Shall respond to calls for assistance by hospital staff, patients, visitors, and the Wayne County 911 center.
Overview of Responsibilities
  • Performs periodic tours of all hospital buildings and grounds. Visually checks for safety and fire hazards. Makes written reports each shift on findings and irregularities.
  • Notifies Chief of Police or other police supervisor in the event of an emergency or criminal act that results in an arrest.
  • Enforces hospital regulations and policies designed to prevent theft and unauthorized access.
  • Conducts safety checks and tests as required by State and Federal laws for a hospital.
  • Assists in all emergencies inside and outside of Reid Health and Reid's satellite offices.
  • Investigates and files reports concerning irregular activities. Promptly reports incidents involving criminal activities.
  • Patrols parking areas periodically, leaving warning notices on automobiles in violation of parking regulations. Checks fire and emergency lanes to ensure they are always clear.
  • Supports the Reid Health Police Department objectives for creating a safe environment.
  • Assists with patient restraint when necessary.
  • Directs visitors and answers questions relative to the location of services.
  • Checks all odor reports and locates the origin.
  • Responds to fire emergency calls, assists police, fire, and emergency management teams.
  • Provides escort service, car door unlocks, vehicle jump starts, and automobile tire inflation to assist staff and guests.
  • Supports hospital departmental policies, procedures, and mission statements.
  • Participates in employee health infection control requirements.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-services.
  • Responds to Security Codes I & II.
  • Successfully completes the required 10-week Tier II law enforcement training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as well as all state-required in-service training. Including physical fitness test.
  • Completes all required mandatory Police Officer training as assigned by the ILEA Police Academy.
  • Successfully completes all required hospital training.
  • Completes all Reid Health Police Department fire training and required qualifications. Maintains a proficiency of 90% on all qualifications per agency policy.

Education & Experience
  • Required: High School Diploma
  • Preferred: Criminal Justice or other relevant degree that would be beneficial to this position. Must be the age of 21.
  • Experience Required: Previous security experience. Have or be able to obtain a valid handgun license for the State in which you reside. Should have experience on a Law Enforcement, military police or security

Licensure & Certification
  • After hire, must successfully complete the 8 week Tier II police academy at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy unless previous academy completion was made.
