Job description

Come join our awesome team as a Occupational Therapy Assistant at Senior CommUnity Care of Northern KY—PACE. We are offering rewarding work, flexible schedule, and great benefits!

Senior CommUnity Care of Northern KY PACE is part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization.

The COTA provides quality ongoing therapy to all patients within the PACE Program per physician’s orders and under guidance from the Occupational Therapist. Communicates on an ongoing basis with therapist, participants and staff, regarding the progress of care provided. The COTA will assist the therapist with participant/patient related activities, direct participant/patient care and case management; and keeps PACE records as per VOANS, PACE policies and procedures and CMS Regulations.

Schedule:  8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday

Salary:  $24-$27/hr - depending on previous experience 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Graduate from a Therapy Assistant accredited curriculum. Eligible for certification and/or licensure in the State of Kentucky.
  2. Is a registered assistant the state of Kentucky or is eligible for registration in the state of employment.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to understand medical terminology and how it applies to Therapy in order to communicate with participants, staff and physicians, and to prepare meaningful reports.
  2. Adequate strength and endurance to meet the physical demands involved in using equipment, tools, and materials while instructing participants.
  3. Verbal and written ability is necessary to understand oral and written instructions; to communicate with participants, staff and family; and to prepare reports as directed by the Registered Therapist.
  4. Motor coordination, manual and finger dexterity are necessary to coordinate movements of eyes, hands and fingers and to manipulate materials while instructing residents.
  5. Spatial and form perception are necessary to visualize shapes, patterns and other pertinent details in specifications and pictures.
  6. Ability to undertake a variety of changing duties as required by many different projects.
  7. Ability to work under specific instructions as to the scope of a project, but to use initiative and judgment in adapting intervention to patient.
  8. Ability to observe all necessary precautions in the use of equipment to prevent injury to participant or staff.
  9. Though a rarity, be willing to work weekends and holidays, as needed, on a rotational basis.
  10. Be willing to travel and work at other VOA facilities, as needed.
  11. Maintain productivity standards as directed by supervisor.
  12. Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
  13. Able to meet the requirements identified in the Essential Function

ESSENTIAL:

  • Performs therapy treatment and related duties delegated by the therapist.
    • Performs therapy treatment in a safe and professional manner.
    • Maintains clinical skill competencies.
    • Respond promptly to acute changes in the patient’s physiological state, report changes to therapist and record pertinent changes.
    • Modify treatment techniques in conference with therapist.
    • Teach patients, their families and other health care providers to perform selected treatment procedures and functional activities.
    • Directly assist the therapist in performing complex evaluations and/or treatment procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains timely treatment records with progress notes and observations including:
    • Physician’s Orders.
    • Objectives of Treatment.
    • Plan of care.
    • Treatment procedure(s) and baseline clinical data.
    • Assessment of progress and participant’s response to treatment.
    • Other pertinent information as required by the facility’s policies.
  • Assists with planning, scheduling, mailing, transporting, filing of documents, and coordinating of Therapy services offered by the department.
  • Participates in participant care planning conferences when needed to coordinate the care of the participant.
  • Participates and provides services for Restorative Nursing Program.
  • Conducts or participates in continuing education programs for facility staff as coordinated by the Education Director; i.e. new staff orientation, Relias.
  • Provides teaching and training to the participant or family.
  • Provides therapy via direct treatment and consultation across various settings.
  • Ensures that Therapy services are provided on a continuous basis, without interruption. This involves informing the supervisor of upcoming vacations, leave of absences, or other reasons when a replacement therapist may be needed.
  • Assists with supervision of maintenance of equipment and supplies, and evaluates and notifies the Department Head on a continuing basis of the condition of the Department’s equipment.
  • Recommends to the Department Head purchases or repairs of department equipment.
  • Assists with management of department inventory control program.
  • Enforces customer service principles and may be asked to be a member of ongoing committees.
  • Performs other duties or special assignments as directed by the Department Head.
  • Assists with coordinating the Therapy program with other rehabilitative services the participant is receiving.
  • Responsible for documentation of treatment notes for assigned participants.
  • Abides by regulations pertaining to the facility as established by Federal and State agencies and Volunteers of America National Services policies.
  • Assists with the department’s infection control and safety programs as directed by the Therapist.
  • Understands facility fire and disaster plans and safety programs. Follows established procedures.
  • Attends required in-services & completes assigned online modules.
  • Performs other department duties or special assignments as directed by the Therapist.
