The Payroll Manager serves as the organization's payroll expert, leading all aspects of payroll operations in a dynamic, multi-state environment. This highly visible role oversees payroll processing, compliance, audits, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure operational excellence and an exceptional employee experience.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee weekly, bi-weekly, and off-cycle payroll processing to ensure accurate and timely employee payments.
  • Manage payroll team members and third-party providers, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and applicable employment and tax regulations.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, Benefits, and business leaders to support efficient payroll operations and deliver an exceptional employee experience.
  • Serve as the organization's payroll subject matter expert, resolving complex payroll, tax, and compliance matters.
  • Oversee payroll audits, reporting, account reconciliations, and payroll-related system and data integrity.
  • Review payroll calculations, including earnings, bonuses, commissions, paid time off, and leave payments.
  • Manage payroll-related vendor relationships and secure data integrations for benefits and retirement plans.
  • Maintain payroll records and provide timely reporting, analysis, and support to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll experience in a mid-sized corporate environment, including multi-state payroll administration; global payroll exposure is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, payroll taxes, and employee benefit programs.
  • Proven ability to manage confidential information with professionalism, accuracy, and discretion.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience driving process improvements and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to work onsite full-time (Monday through Friday) in our Marlborough, MA office is required.
