Job description

Job Title: Referral Coordinator (Part-Time)


Location: Chino Hills, CA 91709
Duration: 13 Weeks (with possibility of extension)
Schedule: Part-Time | Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only
Shift Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (3x8-hour shifts/week)


Position Overview:

Seeking a Referral Coordinator for a part-time, contract role. This position is ideal for candidates with prior experience handling medical referrals in a family medicine setting. The candidate will serve as a critical liaison between patients, providers, and insurance companies to ensure accurate and timely referral coordination for specialty services.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Submit and track referrals for specialty visits, durable medical equipment (DME), and imaging services.

  • Coordinate with insurance providers to obtain required authorizations.

  • Communicate professionally and clearly with patients, providers, and coworkers.

  • Respond to patient calls and messages regarding referrals and follow-ups.

  • Multi-task and manage multiple referrals and communications simultaneously.

  • Work closely with front office and clinical teams to ensure continuity of care.

  • Document all actions accurately and timely within EMR systems.

  • Follow protocols specific to IEHP and other regional insurance plans (preferred).


Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Experience:

    • 6 months to 1 year experience in medical referrals

    • Prior experience working in a Family Medicine office is required

  • Technical Skills:

    • Basic computer and phone proficiency

    • Knowledge of medical terminology and referral procedures

    • EMR experience (Epic or similar systems preferred)


Preferred Skills:
  • Prior experience working with IEHP (Inland Empire Health Plan)

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
