Job description

We specialize in environmental and regulatory consulting for some of the region's most transformative infrastructure projects; from billion-dollar stormwater tunnels and climate-resilient seawalls to electric transit systems and social equity programs ensuring access to clean drinking water. Our team leads the planning and implementation of complex public infrastructure initiatives dedicated to environmental stewardship and sustainable land use.


Job Summary: InterAgency is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Inspector to provide environmental compliance oversight for bridge construction projects in Washington, DC. The successful candidate will perform field inspections five days per week to ensure compliance with erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental inspections during all phases of construction to ensure compliance with permit conditions, approvals, and agency regulations and standards
  • Conduct erosion and sediment control inspections
  • Conduct stormwater management inspections
  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports
  • Attend agency inspections and communicate with various stakeholders
  • Review construction plan sets, SWPPPs, and various environmental submittals to ensure field activities are consistent with approved plans/submittals
  • Conduct monthly reviews to audit builders' environmental deliverables, SWPPP, and inspection reports

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field
  • 3-7 years of environmental inspections experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to reliably travel to project and construction sites throughout the region


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret construction design plans throughout all phases of construction
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and compliance requirements
  • Experience using GPS units, tablets, and other field inspection equipment
  • Ability to maintain accurate inspection reports and project records
  • Virginia Erosion & Sediment Control (ESC) Inspector and Stormwater Management (SWM) Inspector certifications preferred
  • EPA Construction Inspection Training Certification preferred
  • ISA Certified Arborist credential preferred
  • VA ESC/SWM Dual Certification preferred


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Requires regular field work at active construction sites, including walking on uneven terrain and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, occasionally climb ladders or slopes, and lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate tablets, GPS units, cameras, and other field inspection equipment.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed on construction sites.


Employment Conditions:

  • Full-time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable law.
  • Work conditions & location: On-site 5 days a week, DC-metro area.
  • Hours: regular business hours, 8:00 am to 5:00 PM (EST).
  • Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a motor vehicle records (MVR) check. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy.
