Job description

As the Grocery/ Refrigeration Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day performance of these departments driving sales, maintaining margins, and ensuring a safe and inviting environment. Reporting to the Store Manager and Buying Department, you’ll oversee scheduling, team management, merchandising, and vendor relations to help our store thrive.

Hourly Pay: $20.00–$27.00 hourly

What You’ll Do

Operational Leadership 

  • Oversee daily department operations, scheduling, productivity, merchandising, and profit goals.

  • Manage staffing: recruit, train, evaluate, promote, and, when necessary, oversee terminations.

  • Ensure merchandising standards: optimal product placement, rotation, and cleanliness.

  • Monitor store appearance, safety, and adherence to all operational procedures.

  • Collaborate on weekly ad planning and promotional strategies.

Sales & Merchandising 

  • Develop and implement marketing tactics to educate customers on your products.

  • Source products both directly and via distributors to enhance variety.

  • Track and grow customer purchase rates through product knowledge and outreach.

Inventory & Compliance 

  • Maintain accurate product handling: managing invoices, deliveries, shrink (expired/damaged goods), and logging data promptly.

  • Support inventory for refrigeration/grocery and ensure compliance with food safety and quality protocols.

Customer & Vendor Engagement 

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and proactively address feedback.

  • Build strong working relationships with wholesalers, vendors, and internal teams.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, read trade publications and analyze competitors.

  • Lead regular departmental meetings and attend broader leadership training.

Physical Demands 

  • Perform physically demanding work: lift/carry products (singles and case boxes up to 100+ times/day), push/pull carts and dollies, work in walk-ins and freezers, stand for long periods, climb ladders, bend, squat, and reach overhead.

  • Work flexibly (inside/outside) under cold or wet conditions; protective gear provided.

What You Bring

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED (required).

  • Grocery/refrigeration or related experience (preferred).
