Position Overview
The Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, troubleshooting, and improving chemical manufacturing processes to ensure safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective operations. This role works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, EHS, and Production teams to improve process performance, increase yield, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, optimize, and troubleshoot chemical manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Analyze process performance and implement improvements to increase throughput, yield, and production capacity.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting process upsets and equipment-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, operating procedures, and process calculations.
  • Support process scale-up, new product introductions, and technology transfer initiatives.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects focused on waste reduction, cost savings, energy efficiency, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including participation in PHA, HAZOP, and MOC processes.
  • Collaborate with Quality teams to investigate deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage and support capital and process improvement projects, including scope development, equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.
  • Utilize process data, control systems, and engineering tools to monitor performance, drive decision-making, and support long-term reliability improvements.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3-5 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or related process manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting continuous process manufacturing operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex process and operational issues.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and EHS teams.

Preferred Requirements
  • 5-8 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or related process manufacturing environments.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) training.
  • Experience with chemical process design and optimization.
  • Knowledge of process control systems, including DCS and PLC platforms.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and corrective action processes.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
  • Understanding of heat transfer, fluid flow, reaction engineering, and mass transfer principles.
  • Experience utilizing process simulation, modeling, and data analysis tools.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.
The salary for this role is $85,000 - $115,000.
