Position Overview:

The Process Engineer at Motiva's Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex is responsible for optimizing, monitoring, and improving refinery processes to ensure efficient operation and production. This role analyzes process performance, troubleshoots operational issues, and implements solutions that enhance process safety, reliability, energy efficiency, margin performance, and cost effectiveness. Working closely with operations, maintenance, and business teams, the Process Engineer ensures successful product plan execution while supporting capital projects, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide process engineering support for assigned units and operational processes to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient performance.
  • Conduct daily proactive monitoring of process conditions, equipment performance, and key operating parameters to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Analyze operational data and trends to improve process efficiency, product quality, energy consumption, and overall unit profitability.
  • Troubleshoot process upsets, equipment issues, and performance gaps, developing and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Support the design, implementation, startup, and optimization of equipment and systems, including distillation columns, reactors, and heat exchangers.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to ensure alignment on production objectives, operational priorities, and process improvements.
  • Participate in process improvement, debottlenecking, equipment upgrade, and plant modification projects to enhance unit performance and reliability.
  • Perform process safety evaluations, hazard analyses, risk assessments, and management of change activities to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, engineering calculations, operating guidelines, and technical reports to support operational excellence.
  • Ensure refinery activities comply with environmental, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements while supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Experience and Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant process engineering experience
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret process data, identify performance gaps, and implement effective solutions
  • Knowledge of process safety management principles, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, management of change, and safe operating practices
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve business and operational goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant process engineering experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Due to safety sensitive nature of job, must pass annual respirator fit testing
  • Move up to 40 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects
  • Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.)
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
