Job description


Summary

The Reentry Career Counselor works with adults and youth impacted by the justice system, providing individualized support and guidance. They help participants transition into employment or education to promote self-sufficiency.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of adult and youth participants currently or formerly involved in the justice system
  • Support participants through the development and the execution of Individual Employment Plans; assist with rรฉsumรฉ writing, job search, and direct connections to employment or internships
  • Maintain regular contact with participants regularly using voice, text, email, and in-person communication channels to monitor progress. Once a participant enters employment, use similar channels to conduct Follow-up on job retention and advancement checks-ins for each quarter.
  • Identify and coordinate access to community resources that reduce employment barriers such as childcare, housing, behavioral health services, education, workforce training, etc.
  • Teach work readiness skills, interpersonal communication and interview preparation in one-on-one and small group settings, either at the agency or correctional facilities
  • Facilitate connections between participants and hired managers for employment opportunities that match their skills and career goals.
  • Engage in monthly employer advisory meetings to develop new employer connections and sustained, effective partnerships.
  • Conduct program outreach activities including tabling at community events, distributing/posting promotional materials, and maintaining relevant professional networks
  • Follow program protocols for data entry, file management, and privacy protection
  • Collaborate in regular team meetings to assess participant progress and ensure program goals are met.
  • Attend all relevant trainings, workshops, and networking events

Qualifications

Required

  • Understanding of human services programming and ability to align eligibility requirements and needs with appropriate contacts and resources
  • Previous case management experience and/or experience in criminal Reentry services
  • Able to pass criminal background check as this position requires providing services in correctional facilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Office 365,
  • Cultural competency working in a diverse environment
  • Data entry and the ability to navigate databases effectively
  • Ability to follow privacy and confidentiality policies
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to create a welcoming, trusting, and professional environment for participants
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • Understanding of Minnesotaโ€™s Indigenous communities, cultures, and practices
  • Associate's degree in human services or a related field
  • GCDF certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire

AIOICโ€™s office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm, however weekend and evening hours may be required occasionally. With supervisor approval, this position may be granted reasonable remote work privileges on days when participant meetings are not taking place.

  • PTO: accrue 7.69 hours/pay period, increased annually up to 10th year
