Grade: 16 Salary Range: $24.19 - $38.95/hour depending on experience FLSA: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to supervise and coordinate activities and staff at an assigned recreation center.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; and acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
Coordinates, facilitates, and implements recreation and fitness programs and activities that meet the ever-changing needs and physical, social and emotional interests of the community; develops and distributes schedules for various programs, classes, and activities; leads activities, teaches classes, or secures individuals to lead/teach classes; provides planning and setup support for activities; and promotes programs and activities.
Coordinates facility use; maintains master calendar; schedules facility rentals; prepares for scheduled events; sets-up meeting rooms and sports courts; decorates for special events; maintains related documentation; and opens and closes facility.
Performs routine budgeting and bookkeeping functions for the center; assists in developing and implementing recreation center budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget; prepares daily bank deposit; gathers funds; verifies counts; prepares deposit statements; deposits funds; maintains related documentation.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; purchases supplies according to established budgetary parameters; repairs equipment; performs routine maintenance and cleaning tasks as required; ensures proper maintenance and storage of all equipment and supplies; and maintains inventory records.
Ensures the maintenance of the recreation center; conducts regular inspections of facilities; schedules required maintenance and repairs for the facility; and supervises the cleanliness of the building.
Performs general customer service and administrative duties as required; receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding recreation programs, policies and/or personnel; processes participant registrations; assists customers; answers the telephone and greets visitors; prepares reports and correspondence; maintains documentation; and enters computer data, etc.
Ensures center compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; enforces and ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; and initiates necessary actions to correct deviations or violations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Parks & Recreation or a related field required; three years of experience in recreation programming; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
