Canyon Ranch Austin is seeking an experienced, service-driven Assistant Director of Rooms to join our pre-opening leadership team. This role will serve as a key operational partner to the Director of Rooms in building and leading the Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Guest Services, Transportation, PBX, Loss Prevention and Resort Experience teams while establishing the luxury service culture that defines Canyon Ranch. As a hands-on leader, the Assistant Director of Rooms will help develop departmental standards, recruit and onboard colleagues, implement operating procedures, and ensure readiness for opening day. Following opening, this leader will drive operational excellence, guest satisfaction, colleague engagement, Forbes Travel Guide standards, and financial performance across all Rooms Division functions. The ideal candidate combines strong luxury hospitality experience with a passion for wellness, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to creating transformative guest experiences.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO AS A CANYON RANCH COLLEAGUE:

Pre-Opening Training Development

  • Support the Director of Rooms in all aspects of Rooms Division pre-opening planning and execution.
  • Assist with developing departmental operating procedures, standards, training materials, and service guidelines.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, selection, and onboarding of Rooms Division colleagues and leaders.
  • Coordinate department opening checklists, inventory procurement, equipment commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
  • Assist in establishing labor models, staffing plans, scheduling practices, and productivity standards.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Learning & Development to facilitate onboarding, service culture training, and operational certifications.
  • Support the implementation of property management systems, housekeeping technology platforms, guest communication tools, and departmental reporting systems.

Rooms Operations Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight for Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Guest Services, Loss Prevention, Transportation, PBX, and related Rooms Division operations.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, maintenance reporting, presentation, and overall resort readiness.
  • Ensure seamless guest arrival, stay, and departure experiences through proactive service recovery and operational coordination.
  • Monitor guest feedback, online reviews, surveys, and service scores to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Act as Manager on Duty as assigned and serve as a visible leader throughout the resort.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with Food & Beverage, Wellness, Spa, Engineering, Sales, and other operational departments.

Forbes Travel Guide Standards

  • Champion Canyon Ranch service culture and luxury hospitality standards throughout all guest interactions.
  • Partner with Learning & Development and department leaders to ensure Forbes Travel Guide standards are embedded into daily operations.
  • Conduct regular service observations, room inspections, arrival experience audits, and coaching sessions.
  • Lead service recovery efforts and ensure guest concerns are resolved promptly and professionally.
  • Participate in Forbes readiness assessments, mock inspections, and quality assurance programs.

Housekeeping & Laundry Excellence

  • Support housekeeping leadership in maintaining guest room, public area, and back-of-house cleanliness standards.
  • Monitor room readiness, productivity metrics, linen controls, inventory management, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, chemical handling, and wellness-focused environmental standards.
  • Assist with opening and ongoing management of laundry operations, linen programs, uniforms, and amenity programs.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Assist in preparing and managing departmental budgets, forecasts, labor plans, and capital requests.
  • Monitor payroll, scheduling, labor productivity, and departmental expenses.
  • Analyze operational reports and key performance indicators to improve efficiency and service outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping, inventory controls, purchasing practices, and policy compliance.
  • Support vendor relationships and operational contract management as assigned.

Colleague Development & Leadership

  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, recognition, and continuous learning.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and frontline colleagues to achieve operational and service excellence.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, development planning, and ongoing coaching conversations.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment aligned with Canyon Ranch values and culture.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives within the Rooms Division.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

Required

  • 5+ years of progressive Rooms Division leadership experience in luxury hotels, resorts, or destination properties.
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience overseeing multiple Rooms Division functions.
  • Strong operational knowledge of Front Office, Loss Prevention, Housekeeping, Laundry, Guest Services, and resort operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams within a luxury hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of Forbes Travel Guide standards and luxury service expectations.
  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and productivity analysis.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with hotel property management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and operational reporting tools.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and evenings as business needs require.

Preferred

  • Previous luxury resort or wellness hospitality experience.
  • Prior hotel or resort pre-opening experience.
  • Experience with Forbes Travel Guide-rated properties.
  • Multi-department Rooms Division leadership experience.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
  • Prior pre-opening hotel or resort experience
  • Experience working in an integrated wellness, spa, or hospitality environment
