How does a Recovery Coach typically collaborate with healthcare professionals and support networks to help clients achieve their recovery goals?

Recovery Coaches frequently work alongside healthcare professionals, such as therapists, social workers, and medical providers, to ensure holistic support for clients. They act as advocates and liaisons, coordinating care, sharing progress updates (with client consent), and helping clients navigate community resources. Additionally, Recovery Coaches often engage with family members and peer support groups to reinforce positive environments and accountability. Effective collaboration and communication are essential for addressing challenges and celebrating milestones in each client's recovery journey.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Recovery Coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recovery Coach, you need a solid understanding of addiction recovery principles, motivational interviewing techniques, and ideally a relevant certification such as Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) or Certified Recovery Coach (CRC). Familiarity with digital case management tools and recovery support platforms is often required. Outstanding active listening, empathy, and strong boundary-setting skills help coaches build trust and foster client empowerment. These skills enable Recovery Coaches to effectively guide individuals through their recovery journey and support sustainable behavioral change.

Job description

Recovery Specialist - You Are Accountable
Full-Time | Remote In North Carolina | $45,000 + Bonus
You've been where our members are. That's your superpower.
At You Are Accountable, we believe the most powerful force in recovery is connection - with someone who truly gets it. We're building an affordable peer support, testing, and technology platform that helps individuals, families, and providers create lasting change. Our members are transitioning out of treatment and into the rest of their lives, and they need someone in their corner.
That someone is you.
What you'll do
As an Accountable Recovery Specialist, you'll carry your own caseload of members and walk alongside them through one of the most important seasons of their lives. Day to day, that looks like:
  • Offering peer support via text and video - being a real, human presence when it matters most
  • Monitoring toxicology and breathalyzer tests over video (no lab required - you'll be trained)
  • Collaborating with each member's clinical team to keep everyone aligned
  • Building and tracking personalized relapse prevention plans
  • Checking in weekly and reviewing progress surveys to catch issues early
  • Representing Accountable's mission in every interaction

This is a full time-remote role - you set the tone, and we give you the tools.
Who thrives here
You don't need a perfect rรฉsumรฉ. You need lived experience, heart, and a drive to help others find what you've found.
You might be a great fit if you:
  • Are in recovery yourself, with at least 3 years of continuous sobriety, and you're open about it
  • Hold a Peer Recovery Support Specialist credential in the state of North Carolina.
  • Have worked as a case manager, counselor, sponsor, or in any capacity walking people through hard seasons (a big plus, not a requirement)
  • Are comfortable with apps, video calls, and learning new tech - we'll teach you the rest
  • Communicate clearly, listen well, and know how to prioritize when multiple people need you
  • Are excited about being part of a startup that's growing fast and doing meaningful work
What we offer
Compensation & Benefits
  • $45,000 base salary with bonus opportunity
  • Health benefits
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off

The work itself
  • 100% remote in the state of North Carolina.
  • Full time role
  • A team of people who are sober, mission-driven, and genuinely good to work with
  • The chance to be an early leader at a high-growth company reshaping how addiction recovery is supported
Our commitment to you
You Are Accountable is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds - race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability status, age, and more. We're proud to be LGBTQ+ friendly, minority-inclusive, and age-inclusive. Recovery looks different for everyone. So does our team.
