Job description

Certified Peer Support Specialist - Fully Remote (Nationwide)
CLF Consultants LLC (CLFC Healthcare and Communications) is expanding its nationwide network of certified peer support specialists to deliver virtual community reentry peer support for a federal program supporting the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Community Treatment Services. This is a fully remote, non-clinical, lived-experience peer role. All services are delivered virtually by telephone and secure video.

Compensation: $32 to $38 per hour, Independent Contractor (1099).
Position Overview: You walk alongside participants as a peer who has navigated recovery from a mental health condition, a substance use disorder, or involvement with the justice system, and you help each person set their own goals, build practical strategies, and stay connected to support during reentry. You do not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct virtual enrollment and peer support sessions with assigned participants, tailoring frequency and approach to each person's goals.
  • Draw on your own recovery or reentry experience to build trust, model hope, and support long-term recovery and community reintegration.
  • Help participants identify strengths, set their own goals, and build actionable everyday strategies.
  • Maintain a confidential, respectful virtual space and clear non-clinical peer boundaries.
  • Document each session and complete required reporting accurately and on time through the program's secure system.
  • Recognize when a participant needs additional help and connect them to appropriate resources, including crisis lines and community supports.
  • Maintain an active caseload within program limits and respond promptly to participants and program coordinators.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a peer support specialist, such as NCPRSS, NCPS, or a state-recognized certified peer specialist credential (documentation required).
  • Lived experience of recovery from a mental health condition, a substance use disorder, or both, and/or lived experience with the justice system.
  • Comfort delivering services virtually by secure video and telephone, with reliable internet and a private, confidential space.
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and boundary-setting skills; ability to document accurately and meet reporting timelines.

Strongly Preferred: Experience providing peer support in a reentry, correctional, or community-based setting; familiarity with recovery goals related to substance use and mental health; bilingual ability.
Engagement details: As an independent contractor, you supply your own reliable internet, private confidential workspace, and video-capable device. The DOJ/BOP contract requires use of the agency-approved secure delivery platform for all virtual sessions; a brief contract orientation covers federal scope and documentation standards.
