Job description

Note: The compensation range noted above represents the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.
The Emergency Department (ED) Recovery Coach is a trained professional who provides immediate support to patients and family members experiencing substance related crises. Using their own lived experience, they engage patients, offer hope, link to treatment or community resources, and provide follow-up support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Patient Engagement: Offering support to patients with opioid or other drug/alcohol use to build rapport and support engagement in their wellness planning.
  2. Peer Support: Uses shared lived experience to model recovery, reduce stigma, and provide emotional support during crises. Provide ongoing support to patients who are medically or psychiatrically admitted.
  3. Knowledge of Local Resources and Understanding of Multiple Pathways of Recovery: In collaboration with the patient, identifies goals and assists in connecting patients to harm reduction services, treatment providers and community recovery supports based on patient specific goals.
  4. Harm Reduction and Overdose Education: Strong understanding of Harm Reduction principles. Educates patients and family members on overdose prevention, safer substance use and ensures naloxone access.
  5. Follow-Up: Conducts post-discharge follow-up calls to provide support in accessing community supports.
  6. System Collaboration: Works alongside multidisciplinary ED staff in a fast paced, high intensity environment, to provide a holistic care approach
  7. Documentation: Documentation of all patient encounters in patient record as required.
  8. Clinical Supervision: Collaborate with Clinical Supervisor and attend supervision as required.
  9. Ongoing Education: Attend trainings as required. Required to work towards State Certification or if certified, required to maintain certification.

QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUISITES:
Education: High School
Experience: 2 years as Recovery Coach, Certified Recovery Coach preferred (CARC)
