Overview

The Virginia Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking two experienced Systems Administrators to support a secure, stable, and high-performing hybrid IT infrastructure environment. This role is responsible for administering enterprise server systems, identity platforms, cloud-integrated services, and operational infrastructure across on-premises and Microsoft cloud environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, patch management, system monitoring, backup operations, and infrastructure support within structured IT operations environments. Local candidates are strongly preferred.

Job Description

The Systems Administrator will support core Infrastructure & Operations functions for the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure & Operations, this position focuses on operational excellence, system reliability, security compliance, and disciplined execution of infrastructure processes across enterprise systems.

This role partners closely with Network Engineering, Information Security, End User Services, and Application/Data teams to maintain critical infrastructure services, support operational stability, execute maintenance activities, and assist with vulnerability remediation initiatives. The Systems Administrator will contribute to change management, incident response, backup and disaster recovery operations, and continuous improvement efforts within a governance-driven IT environment.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Administration

  • Administer Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP services
  • Support Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online and Entra ID (Azure AD)
  • Maintain enterprise system performance, availability, and configuration standards
  • Support file and print services administration
  • Perform operating system troubleshooting and maintenance activities

Patch Management & Vulnerability Remediation

  • Execute structured server patching and maintenance activities
  • Validate patches prior to deployment into production environments
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and communicate operational impacts
  • Support vulnerability remediation initiatives aligned with security priorities
  • Track patch compliance, remediation status, and maintenance activities

Security & Compliance Support

  • Implement infrastructure security controls and support security policy adherence
  • Support MFA administration and identity/access management processes
  • Assist with system hardening and access control management
  • Support logging, monitoring, and security integration efforts
  • Participate in compliance and audit-related activities
  • Support NIST or similar security framework alignment efforts

Monitoring & Incident Response
