Job description

Public Records Assistant

The employee will assist in responding to and fulfilling Public Records Requests submitted to the District Attorney's office and St. Tammany Parish Government. The employee will be learning, understanding, and applying the Louisiana Public Records Law (La. R.S. 44:1 et seq). The employee will redact documents in conformity with the Louisiana Public Records Law. The employee will be responsible for copying, scanning, faxing, emailing, and mailing documents and correspondence. The employee must always keep the supervisor informed of all Public Records Requests, and following written policies and protocols regarding responses and production of requests. The employee will learn when to act independently and when to refer issues to supervisor. The employee will be maintaining confidentiality of all cases and office-related matters including victim/law enforcement/attorney information and other duties as may be assigned.

  • Experience in case management and/or legal research preferred but not required

Compensation - Salary based upon qualifications and relevant experience, paid vacation/sick, retirement benefits as well as paid health for employee

Physical ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and material of medium weight (40 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electrical, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease or pathogenic substances.
