Easterseals Academy is a therapeutic school that provides schooling for children with an autism spectrum disorder, emotional disability, developmental delay, or intellectual disability. School districts refer students to Easterseals Academy where the schools provide an alternative school placement for these students to help them to achieve independence. Easterseals Academy has three campuses: Chicago, Machesney Park, and Tinley Park.

The primary responsibility of the Student Safety Coordinator is to ensure the safety and security of the students, facility, employees, guests, visitors, and program participants.


This position is located at the Easterseals Academy - Tinley Park Campus at 17300 Ozark Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477. 


MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Screen each person seeking entry to the facility utilizing a camera, voice, and/or buzzer system.
  • Ensure that visitors and program participants sign in and out according to program procedures.
  • Escort Central Office visitors to the elevators.
  • Direct school guests, visitors, and parents/guardians to the school reception.
  • Ensure that all visitors check in with the appropriate staff person.
  • Consult with the program manager and/or other designated program staff as needed according to program procedures.
  • Ensure that all entry/exit doors remain locked at all times.
  • Patrol playground and grounds at designated times and as needed; inform unauthorized individuals to leave the premises.
  • Secures the parking lot during high-traffic times
  • Routes packages and mail from vendors to School Reception or calls Central Office Reception to retrieve mail and packages from the security desk.
  • Performs site surveys and safety inspections on the assigned premises.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experienced Required:
  • Previous security experience in an educational setting a plus

Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and experience in working with people, including those of diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge and experience working with Word and Outlook
  • Knowledge and skills working with LobbyGuard, Raptor and Milestone CCTV systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
