Job description

The Plant Guard is to provide security services for the Covestro New Martinsville Site including, but not limited to, the following activities: guest/telephone reception duties, radio communications, monitoring and operating electronic security equipment, maintaining access control system, performing random checks, authorizing security clearance for all visitors entering the plant, performing surveillance duties and testifying regarding observations, monitoring perimeter areas of plant, traffic control and monitoring of parking lots for parking/speed violations, utilizing defensive and offensive site security and personnel protection systems and equipment as assigned, as well as serve on Plant Emergency Services Teams as determined by Management.

The main function of this position is to provide security services for the Covestro New Martinsville Site. This is a union position, and employees are subject to a 90-day probationary period.

Major Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Guest/telephone reception duties,

  • Radio communications

  • Monitoring and operating electronic security equipment

  • Maintaining access control system

  • Performing random perimeter checks and vehicle inspections

  • Authorizing security clearance for all visitors entering the plant

  • Performing surveillance duties and testifying regarding observations

  • Monitoring perimeter areas of plant, traffic control and monitoring of parking lots for parking/speed violations

  • Utilizing defensive and offensive site security and personnel protection systems and equipment as assigned

  • Serve on Plant Emergency Services Teams as determined by Management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Ability to obtain EMT-B certification

  • Ability to pass a Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of plant operations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point software applications

  • Previous law enforcement or security experience

  • Experience with a Department of Homeland Security or Coast Guard site

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to comply with and support site Safety initiatives;

  • Ability to qualify and serve on Plant Emergency Services Teams;

  • Ability to work rotating shifts including required overtime;

  • Good interpersonal skills for interacting with all levels of employees and visitors;

  • Good verbal and written communication skills;

  • Computer literacy

  • Ability to maintain stable performance under pressure or opposition;

  • Demonstrated ability to accept and implement change;

  • Ability to qualify in the use of defensive and offensive site security and personnel protection systems and equipment;

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk (briskly) for 100 yards, and run (full stride) for 50 yards;

  • Ability to climb ladders (short distances/heights);

  • Ability to work in varying physical environments (indoors/outdoors inclement weather)

Starting pay rate: $21.73/hour with increases every 6 months until max pay rate: $25.75/hour
