Job description

Jupiter Power is an energy infrastructure company focused on the development, construction, trading and operation of battery energy storage assets across U.S. power markets. Formed in 2017, the company is a national leader in energy storage deployment, utilizing its proprietary optimization applications daily to dispatch its fleet and support its offtake customers. Backed by BlackRock's Diversified Infrastructure business, Jupiter Power has a strategic portfolio of nearly 2,300 MW / 5,000 MWh in operations or under construction and a pipeline of over 12,000 MW in new projects in development.
To support its expanding portfolio, Jupiter Power is seeking a Real Time Manager who will be responsible for managing the daily real-time trading and dispatching of its battery energy storage systems (BESS) in power markets, with an initial concentration in ERCOT. This position will be responsible for managing a Real Time QSE desk with day-to-day real time operations and asset management of our growing fleet of battery storage systems in ERCOT with expansion into CAISO, PJM, MISO, NYISO and NEPOOL.
Regular duties include (i) Manage the 24/7 Real-Time desk, (ii) training junior real time traders on market operations and asset management, (ii) supporting the delivery and maintenance of systems used for real time operations, (iii) coordinating site availability and planned maintenance with the ROC and site operations team, and (iv) managing scheduling and dispatch decision-making in the Real Time market.
This role will be based out of our Houston, TX office and is subject to our Company's return-to-office policy which currently requires a minimum of three days a week in the office.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain the Real Time desk operations including personnel schedules and systems. Implement standard operating procedures used for real-time operations for the fleet of assets on an ISO level.
2. Manage daily Real Time operations processes to ensure that trading and scheduling decisions are executed to satisfy energy and ancillary service obligations and to manage capacity (state of charge) efficiently while maximizing revenue.
3. Identify additional resources and the budget required to support the Real Time desk operations including third party data sources, external systems, and internal needs.
4. Work with the Jupiter SCADA team to maintain the EMS system for all current operating assets and implement for future assets to be constructed, including any additional views required by the QSE desk.
5. Identify and troubleshoot real-time communication issues between the site equipment, internal data management systems, third-party partners such as Scheduling Entities and ISOs
6. Work with internal compliance group to ensure that real-time asset operations and processes adhere to ISO compliance, NERC compliance, and Jupiter Power's risk policy guidelines. Assist in responding to any compliance inquiries received in regard to the operations of any asset in the fleet.
7. Ensure communication with the Jupiter Power ROC staff in Real Time regarding asset availability and inputting outages/communicating with Scheduling Entities and ISOs where applicable.
8. Use 3rd Party modules and ISO published reports to monitor Real Time system conditions, outages, and constraints on nodal energy prices affecting our positions.
9. Supporting asset onboarding and ongoing support for asset planning & reporting including acting as liaison with clients/business partners, maintenance of asset parameter data, outage planning and asset monitoring.
10. Ensure the desk maintains 24/7 coverage to support Level 4 QSE responsibilities and provide additional coverage if needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• Five or more years in a Real Time Power role such as control room operations, power trading, generation scheduling, or asset management
• Experience in managing a team of traders or operators within the energy management sector.
• Working knowledge in one or more ISOs (ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, PJM, NYISO, ISONE)
• Ability to work and communicate effectively in a high stress environment while managing time in sometimes rapidly changing situations.
• Demonstrates high standards in risk management, performance management, relationships with relevant 3rd parties and clients, communication, analysis, decision making, and legal & regulatory compliance.
• NERC certification preferred and familiarity with energy storage resources.
• A degree(s) in finance, economics, math, electrical theory, electrical power distribution, electrical power generation, or relevant field
• High comfort level with fast-moving organizations, with the curiosity and enthusiasm to innovate and formulate innovative ideas and to bring the best out of co-workers.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Availability to provide shift coverage if necessary.
